Oil Changes between service intervals

Newish member here with a quick question...

Coming from a turbo'd car im used to changing the oil and filter every 5k or so. Having a recent service on the Z4C it confirmed that i wouldnt need another service until ive reached another 15k which is 3 times longer than i would usually do so.

Im pretty confident in swinging a spanner albeit its a bit of a pain ill now how to measure my oil before i put it in but is it worth changing in between bmw's recommendations? Its just probably going to take me nearly 3 years to reach this figure and it feels a little counter intuitive

I read up a little about the dreaded tappy engine syndrome and it seems to suggest that regular oil change probably wont make a difference but surely cleaner oil is better oil.

I can only see it being of benefit, I appreciate modern synthetic oils perform better for longer, but on cars doing a low annual mileage going 2 years+ between oil and filter changes seems too long :|. If your going to do it change the gearbox oil at the same time......so much smoother .

I change my oil & filter every year, whatever the mileage or servicing status

It should be a maximum of 2 years, so even if you don't reach the mileage, you should still have a service.

Mine is an M, but with all engines, I believe it cant hurt to change early, but don't reset the mileage countdown if I were you.

I change mine every year, which is about 7-8k miles at present, but would probably do it at that mileage even if it was under a year.

If your car is a toy, and regularly driven hard as apposed to a daily which may be driven more normally, I would definaely say give it a change.

I got the garage to do mine this year as I was really busy at the time, but might give it a go myself next time. The S54 looks really easy to work on for an oil change.

Thanks guys. Its kind of what i thought and there are times in the year the car will get driven hard so i think it would be beneficial.

What sort of gearbox oil is recommended? I previously ran Redline MT-90 and was very happy with it.
