oil change

my car is about 1200 miles from its change, i have castrol edge and filter etc and i was going to do it myself a while back but im concerned it will effect the service history. its not got the greatest history as the last owner didn't get inspection 1 done by a decent place so i was planning on getting the oil done by a garage to get a stamp.

so my problem is i dont have job and when i do start my new one i wont be able to have time off. so how can i do it myself and log it in the book in a way that is believable?

Keep the reciepts for the oil and filter, consider cliping them to the service book...
Then sign and date the slot in the book.

That's about as believable as self-servicing can get.

I do it, and I don't mind buying cars with well documented self services  (as long as the guy I'm buying it from looks like he knows what end of a wrench to hold)

Agree
I print off a self service schedule and attach it in the service book.
I also keep the filter boxes and date them and put the old plugs in the boxes the new ones came in (but I'm boring ) :D

I used to keep all the receipts for my old cars i serviced myself

But if its just a stamp you want which is better than no stamp imo
you should find a garage that will let you bring in the filter and oil and just charge you for the labour and stamp the book

local garage to me used to charge me £30 for this which ment i had good oil going in and a stamp in the book for when i solt it :D

i do all the services on my cars myself and never had any problems selling them on. i keep all paperwork to show what's been done, and at least doing it yourself you know what's been done. plus the z4 is so easy to do a service on. if you can try and use the same parts that BMW would use.
