Oil change

Hi guys,

New on the forum here.

I bought a 2006 2.5Si a couple of weeks ago. The car has 20.000 miles and first (last) service was done in March 2007. The inspection counter indicates the next service to be done in +/-13.000 miles. Should I consider an oil change earlier?

Personally, I think the service intervals are too long and do my oil every 6000-7000 miles - after all it's only £70 to do it.

I mark this as an 'interim oil service' in the service book, but don't reset the clocks, so it still counts down to the next service correctly.

The interval is approx 15000miles (usage dependant) or 2 years maximum... If your car was last serviced in March 07, it is well overdue a service! Has the car really done approx 2000 miles in 2 years!? Im guessing you have a stamp missing... Which service is it telling you to do?

Does it really need done every 2 years if the mileage hasnt been met? I thought these days you only needed to service it when the computer says so?

Yes, as the oil degrades with both time and use due to it mixing with fuel & water.

Sounds to me like someone has zeroed the service interval indicator, which is real easy, as from what you say it will be 33,000 miles between services and something in the order of 3 to 3.5 years.

No way would I want to run that long without some servicing
