Oil change

The manual for my E89 3.0 suggests BMW high performance 5w-30 synthetic which I'm sure they will finance for you.
The following oils also meet their standards:
Castrol Syntec European 0w-30
Mobil 1 0w-40 (in mine)
Valvoline SynPower 5w-30

BMW don't use Castrol any more, it's Shell Helix Ultra now.

My Indy told me it's because Castrol wouldn't supply it in a BMW container without a Castrol logo, but Shell would.

But I'm sure either would be just fine if they meet BMW LL04.

I am sure some years back BMW used Mobil. I think car manufacturers use whatever brand gives them the best deal. As you say as long as it meets LLO4 then it should be fine.

agreed, BMW use castrol - they designed and built the engine so they are the ones who know what they are talking about and whats best for the motor.

To avoid all doubt, I only use the recommended BMW oil that I order from an online retailer as a service kit with the filter, washer etc.
