Right chaps.... is everyone still using Castrol TWS?

Dilemma really.... My car has full BMW service history,its due an oil change in 4000 miles but im gonna do it now. Baring in mind the car is 7 years old now,do we think that dealer history is important?
i can do the oil service myself and stamp the service book as a indy..

Our local factors sell Mobil 1 10w60 and Valvoline VR1 10w60,if i was to use Castrol i would have to buy it in..

I also fancy using some of the new nanotech oil from Millers racing....Anyone ever tried it ?
 
For easy jobs like engine oil changes I decided to go down the DIY route a while ago. I'm simply not prepared to pay main dealer prices (or indy prices for that matter) for a simple job I can do myself.

I change the engine oil annually regardless of mileage. To try to mitigate any implications if/when I decide to sell the car, I've kept a record of all work I've done and have retained receipts for the oil and filters I've bought.

Also by way of mitigation, I've stuck with the recommended Castrol Edge 10w60 (costs around £35 per four litre container from Euro Car Parts) and only use OEM filters bought from the local BMW garage. I don't know enough about the technology behind engine lubrication to feel confident about challenging BMW's recommendations.
 
If I see the word 'nano' on any product, be it oil, polish, wax, sealant, etc., I instantly ignore it as it's marketing bollocks!
 
I recently took my car out of BMWSH for its inspection 2 and used a reputable Indy.

Very happy with my service, they talked me through the car, showed me some pictures etc and made recommendations based on what the car needed, not trying to upsell things.

As with anything really, you pay your money and make your choices. If a future owner questions the service history, I would urge them to search the internet for reviews on the Indy I used and im sure they would not be disappointed. I bet they couldn't say the same for BMW Dealers.

Going back to oil changes, personally if it was an "Extra", then I don't see a problem doing it yourself. Maybe take some pics while you are doing it to show how you work etc. If it was a scheduled service, if it was me, I would probably have any Indy do it.

I also have mine serviced yearly or about 7K miles regardless what the computer says, as I think 15k or 2 years is too long really.
