Oil change service by an independent

Having just bought my Z4M as a somewhat impulse purchase, I noticed that the service history includes the running in service at a main dealer, then an oil service carried out at a normal independant garage (ie. not even BMW specialist, I think it might have been the lease company that owned the vehicle) at about 10k miles back in March - do you think this is a bad thing that the oil service was carried out by a non-franchised dealer, or is it a basic change that anyone can do and shouldn't affect re-sale?

Providing the right 'quality' oil is used and appropriate filter should be no issue although as has been said in other threads buyers can often prefer a main dealer service history and may use non franchise dealer servicing as a bartering point. Having just bought the vehicle I would do (or insisted before purchase) an oil and filter change or full service – personal choice for either. But at least this gives you a ‘clean’ starting point for your vehicle. UK/EU regulation now allows independent dealer servicing during warranty providing original parts are used without jeopardy to the warranty.

what were they called?

The company that carried out the service are called Fleet Care Maintenance, based in Stockport.

Yep, getting another oil change is not a bad shout, thanks for the tip

I'm sure they are a very good garage but they are very local and seem to cater for commercials a bit too heavily. Pound to a penny you've got an engine full of whatever they had in the barrel in the corner and a motor factors oil filter so I'd go with Alan - get it done again soon as....
