Oil change light??

HI all,

First drive in the 2016 35i and I received an "engine malfunction warning".

Once home I scrolled through the menus and found an image of an oil can lit up in red with the date of 11/2024 displayed below.
I called the dealer who said the oil level is low and the date was probably not reset.

My question: does the date of 11/2024 indicate the next oil change due date or does it indicate when the oil was LAST changed?

Seems I'm unable to insert a picture here - am I able too? First time posting on this forum.

Cheers, James.

Not your answer, but a related PSA.

The old indy highly recommended to change oil on the N54 every six months. I don’t know how to find out if that’s the right frequency. But it’s true that the N54 is very finicky.

Whether November 2024 was the last or the next recommended oil change, I’d change it and reset my own maintenance log.

Good luck. Welcome to the forum.

Not a great start…measure oil level on idrive..

Oil change is way overdue ..

Use 5w-30 api-sp

Welcome to the forum James,
As said the date is when it’s due for changing, it’s possible they forgot to re set it, do you believe them?
If it was changed with the correct amount then it’s using a lot of oil.
You can check the level through the idrive but it has to be warm and the car needs to be level, if the oil light was on then I’d put 1/2 litre in 1st, then go for a 20min drive and then check.

Could be wrong, but wouldn’t you get an oil warning rather than a general engine light on?
The oil date is telling you when it was last due not that it is low surely?
Check the oil level but bear in mind that the engine light could be for something else and had just caused you to discover the oil change date.

You are probably correct, I think I miss read the post and presumed it was the low oil warning

I took it in to the dealer for the oil change program sign-up (4 oil changes over 3 yrs for $249). I noticed a pronounced whistling sound under acceleration (turbo noise) on my way over. It turns out the P.O. failed to properly attach a "blow-off" hose and it was hanging loose. A vacuum T connector was too small causing a leak, and a bunch of O2 sensor tubing was hanging free. Some other wiring/tubing was not properly secured as well.
The hose explains why the car didn't feel very quick, as the boost was affected. If I were at all familiar with the car I could probably have saved a ton of money reattaching these straightforward items, as the dealer charged crazy money to set it all right (~$520). Independent for everything other than oil changes from here on.
The car is missing all four jack pads as well as a bunch of trim panel screws (front wheel well, diffuser attachment under the rear, front valence).
The dealer wanted $413 to replace the jackpads and $168 to install screws and/or speed nuts. WOW.
I ordered jack pads and the jack adapter for $35, and requested a list of the screws I need to buy from parts.

I learned the car not only has aftermarket wheels (Enkei - actually quite nice) but an aftermarket exhaust as well.
The exhaust is not loud, it just has a deeper note, again very nice. Dealer said the exhaust system is fine.
