Oil Change "2"

So I drop my car off at the garage this morning for an oil change:

Received a call shortly afterwards that this change is the "Oil Change 2" which requires:

1) Change of oil
2) Replacement oil filter
3) Replacement air filter
4) Replacement spark plugs

... all for the princely sum of £365

I probably should have researched this properly before dropping the car in, but wondered if anyone else has experience of this and could guide me in the right direction?
 
It's not what you would call value for money is it ?

Land Rover charge silly prices as well. :(
 
My first oil and filter change, along with brake fluid was £320... the second oil change, which is also filters, 'vehicle check'(!?), plugs etc etc was nearly £600!

Pfft plugs and oil and filters for £365. Bargain!!

Thank god the iDrive shows nothing more to do for 2 years... hopefully.
 
There are huge mark ups on the oil for starters. Bought in a bulk/tank price then sold on at per litre prices.
I suppose that's what business is about.
 
You should be able to supply your own oil, which you'll easily be able to get cheaper than what the dealership charge for it (massive mark up). Not sure what the plugs and filters cost, probably marked up as well but doubt by as much as the oil. Bulk of the cost will be 'labour'.

See if you can supply your own oil, and order it from opieoils or ECP - they'll deliver to you and all you'll have to do is leave it in the boot for the servicing bod to use when you drop the car off. I've done this before a couple of times and it saves a few quid.
 
Remember you are paying for a stamp in a log book to maintain any warranty and resale value. Just serviced my car myself at 40k.

Oil Mobil1..Special offer Halfords £40 5 litres.(Need 6 litres!)
Plugs........£45
Oil filter....£6
Air filter...£14

£10 to my friendly garage chap to use is car lift.

Time about an hour at a steady cup of tea every 20 minute pace.

Interestingly the only official service in my logbook was done at 21k, oil, oil filter, air filter and brake fluid. I then changed those items at 30k myself. And will do every 10k regardless of the service indicator.
 
I recommend finding a BMW indie garage in your area.

I got service 1 completed and my book stamped for just under £150.
 
Depends as said if you have warranty to consider. I have no option but to use the main dealer on extended warranty.
 
Hang on, I must have missed something here.......you were kidnapped by two guys wearing BMW balaclavas, driven to your dealer, tied up and shoehorned into the tea cupboard, your Zed was serviced, your credit card wrenched off you and then you were then sent on your way.

I guess I would be a little brassed off and want to tell the world I was fleeced :)

If you're under new car warranty you can get it serviced wherever you like. Under insured warranty though, it's dealer servicing or the warranty is invalid. Crap really. Kick backs are us.

Don’t believe this is true with BMW Mondial as they changed their terms and conditions to allow indies. I emailed them about this in Jun and they replied:

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your email.

The terms and conditions with regards to servicing have recently changed and we are in the process of updating the Policy Handbooks.

To keep your BMW Insured Warranty valid, the vehicle must be serviced within the correct intervals, by a VAT registered garage, using BMW approved parts and the right grade oils.

That's interesting as my policy book, which arrived just a week ago says BMW dealers only... I'll have to double check this, glad you mentioned it. I know this was true for brand warranties , the EU thing, but it was different for insured warranties, perhaps the EU have dabbled there too now. I'm glad I saved £300 on my dealer service though (BMW credit I had left over).
