Ohlins Road & Track

I don't know, I have top adjustable (rebound) on the Clubsports right now and it's a doddle to do. Certainly easier than lying on the floor under the car when I want to adjust the bump (which is on the bottom).

You don't need to. I have a couple of the plastic trim panels permanently removed from the boot area, and that gives me access to the top of the shock. Easy enough to remove and replace though, if you wanted to keep them in. Having said that, after I spent some time on a couple of trackdays tweaking the setup, I don't really touch it anymore, so once you've done that initial setup you shouldn't need to keep adjusting them too often.

any update? are these actually going to happen? have been holding out hope when ohlins USA was going to do something on zpost from a couple years ago, but i assume that has long since died....

so would be into a set if these do actually become a reality!

So I think I am going ahead with these. They are obviously keen if others are interested, and will help the cost.
They are being developed here in the UK http://www.aurok.com/ in conjuction with ohlins Germany (who do most of the road&track development work). My car will be with them for a week for it to go on the rig etc.
Please share with the US site as they will be happy to ship there. Pm me for any details, I should be receiving pricing shortly.

Tom this is not an ohlins developed kit however like they did for the e46m3 ETC.... you are aware this is been put together by aurok and the SPEC built buy ohlins. For example KW will build you whatever you want if you do all the research but its not an off the shelf developed by them "kit" if you get me. Ohlins themselves made it very clear they personally don't see enough market for them to develop a solution for the z4n due its its tiny volume.

Sure, of course. It will use the front e36 bodies and rear e46 bodies but with custom valving and spring rates for the Z4M. Pretty much how ohlins sweeden would have done if they could have been bothered I'd have thought?
I'm no expert but aurok (who develop suspension for race cars and have the necessary equipment) have said that they can set this up and will be working with ohlins Germany who apparently do pretty much all of the r&t setups.
I'm willing to give it a shot, let's see....

im not talking about the physical packaging.... I'm talking about the thousands of miles of development ohlins do on their sanctioned kits, not to mention their own warranty Etc.... but as long as your happy and ware of that. Cant wait to see how it all pans out.

Likewise! I wonder though how much of the development of these kits is actually done on the road vs the rig, certainly aurok will be doing some road testing with it, if not 1000's of miles. My understanding is that the 2yr warranty will still be intact, but I will be checking on that, cheers,

I did the same with AST UK for my Z4. I was supplied with E36 front and E46 rear. Went down to AST UK and over the course of a few days they fine tuned the valving and we messed around with spring rates. For me personally this was better than AST doing an off the shelf as I had my personal input in the setup of the units, off the shelf units generally have too much compromise as they try to cater for a mass market.

Good to hear, it makes a lot of sense to me to have it done exactly for my car. For instance the front ap 5575 calipers about to go on weigh about 3k per side less than the oem items. In unsprung weight terms that's fairly significant.
The e36/46 combo should be a straight fit and many spare parts and options available to fiddle around with.

good points!!

Ha! not quite ye, one day honestly!t... Have the Ap's installed now, and looking to do the suspension properly in the new year. A good friend of mine with an E46m3 has just had the ohlins R&T kit installed, going for a little test drive later this week. Still seriously considering Intrax 1k2 with ARC and KW competition (maybe clubsport) 2-way, though these are all 'off the shelf' kits, the ohins at aurok would be valved specifically for my car which has a fair bit less unsprung weight than standard, that appeals to me.
I've had intrax 1k2 (albeit without the quite amazing ARC control) on an M3 before so it will be interesting to try one with the Ohlins this week.

Interesting. I really looking forward to hearing your opinion on the ohlins kit. Intrax 1K2 is a decent bit of kit. Keep us posted and have fun!

Hi Tom did you get the chance to drive your friends M3?

I did yes a few days ago. Sadly only for a 10 mins or so in London but it was instructive nonetheless. Wow! Supreme damping control, it felt sooo controlled, not harsh, very grown up. Night and day to his (admittedly tired OEM items). This was running standard OEM rubber top mounts so NVH wise it was far above my intrax, however the damping control felt similar if not better. If I was to run the ohlins I'd probably use turner solid top mounts (similar to the standard Intrax items which allow adjustable camber) and I'd love to try a set of the ohlins with those, but that's going to be unlikely. When I had my intrax I was also running proper bucket seats like I am now so again difficult to compare ride comfort so much to his with standard m3 seats/sofas. I hope to go with him on track somewhere soon and explore high loading feel, I suspect that the lower spring rate of the ohlins kit will not be as effective as the intrax however that has its benefits on road. Ultimately I need to make my mind up about where the compromises need to be, they're both lovely bits of kit as I'm sure the KW clubsports are. Decision decisions... Maybe in another year I'll have made my mind up
