not when the benefits system pays more than a pay packet

Who says people on the "Dole" get more than a working man?
The same person that said native Britains would rather sit on their arses than work?

70 years or so ago in a country not far from here the population was told/brainwashed into thinking all the economic problems were caused by one race of people

Think I'll defend my point here on the "native Britain's part" ... There wasn't one suggestion that all native Brits sit on their arses and claim benefits. And it didn't imply that native Brits who are on benefits are a problem. My mum for one had to take early retirement to her resentment due to ill health and thus receives some benefits. I'll stand for my point there are waaaay too many people who could and should work and do not choose to actively try, and again not necessarily all their fault either but partly due to the system.

I don't think your comparison between such comments and a "regime" from 70 years ago is a sensible thing to say, at all. Lol. Never mind.

Err....all the reports you hear on the news about people living in council accommodation getting benefits for this, benefits for that etc, that would stop if they worked, and so they would be worse off than staying on benefits.

Mick Phillpott?

Obviously, if they walked into a well paid job, then it would be the case, but that's not gonna happen is it?

Precisley......all you hear........we are drip fed bullshit......of course any system is open to abuse whether its the single mum knocking out a kid every 9 months to claim the benefit or the MP claiming his sisters rent on his expenses.

A good friend of mine's wife is high up in the DWP and she assured me when I broached this very subject that people out of work struggle with the very basics like heating/food etc , maybe wages in the lower paid sector are too low

Well we can't afford the Public Sector we have now so somethings got to give. We have a declining workforce being asked to pay more and more in tax.

When you have 3.3m people claiming £13bn a year in Disability Living Allowance with 70% in receipt of a lifetime award (i.e. no checks on their suitability for the benefit) I think you can say with some justification we have a need to reform.

Despite what they may or may not cost, or what they may or may not claim/contribute etc..

my biggest gripe with these lot is the CRIME!

Pickpocketing, petty thefts, stealing carp from fisheries to eat, driving with no insurance etc. That may not cost the government directly much but it does directly affect the public and business owners!

Fair enough some may be straight hard working individuals, but theres plenty that are most certainly not, theres not enough jobs for British people at the moment so why let more in and risk the other consequences?

thats an interesting leap from cutting wastage to fascism and racism. Lazy people of any colour or creed should go hungry and workers should have opportunity in any country - whats wrong with that

While I agree this isnt great, 10/1000 people said they wanted to move, thats barely means for concern nor a reality that 153k people want to move. Thats just a complete statistical interpolation hoax.

Spot on!

The benefits system has been too easy. I dont know much about it, but I know people that have a degree in it...they know exactly what they can claim for...and do!

My brother lives at home with my mum and dad. He has no incentive to get a job - unlike me, he is not materialistic, so doesn't need money. Mummy and Daddy support him. He has a job now....15 hours a week cleaning. Yes, its a job, which hopefully will lead to more, but mummy and daddy still support him. There must be plenty of people like this - yes, dole (or whatever the current name is) isn't a great amount and I'm sure that those who claim it because they need it, do struggle. But there are plenty of people who get it and dont struggle due to other factors. In my brothers case, I blame my mum and dad for being too soft on him.

Then theres the council estates where people smoke and drink (both expensive habits), often have large flatscreen TV's (even years ago when they were much more expensive), designer clothes, satelite tv etc. I'm not saying they shouldn't have these things, but it is a bit much if they are using benefits to pay for them when hard working people are worried about being made redundant etc and how are the bills gonna be paid.

Obviously, we are talking as people who own Z4's - I openly admit I have no real clue what its like to suffer real hardship, and I feel for those that do. But thats the point...the benefits paid to genuine people are low because they are also being paid to fraudsters.

The issue with immigrants coming in and stretching the state is what we are led to believe. Press? TV news? We only know what the government want us to know!

Somebody opened a bank account using my address last year.

They were earning 600 pounds a month and receiving a 1000 pounds on benefits on top of that.

That's over 19 grand a year tax free when they are only earning about 7 grand. How can we as a nation afford to do that?

If they do some cash in hand work then they could easily pull in a couple of grand a month without paying any tax.

This is what people are coming here for. Our over generous benefits system that is unsustainable.

My wife and I were shopping in Birmingham Saturday and we noticed how many people weren't speaking English anymore. I sick of all the immigrants so I'm going to play them at their own game and bugger off to live in the Maldives, see how the Maldivians like it!! :P

Apparently some countries were struggling for qualified tradesmen, cos they all came over here!

In our town (in the south west, town...not city) you will hear at least 1 foreign language when walking along the street, if not more. Not actually saying its bad, just an observation. I do think anyone coming to live in this country should be made to learn English, like I think if I moved to a non-English speaking country I should learn the lingo. The people I mention might speak English very well, and all I hear is them talking to each other, which is fine. One of our local Tesco's (we have 2 Tesco supermarkets and a 3rd high street one on the way!) has an isle dedicated to foreign food, ie Polish brands etc...like when I go to Florida and the Publix has a British section (selling British brands).

If you have 6 apples and 10 people , 4 are going to go hungry , if you have 6 houses and 10 people 4 are going homeless , if you have 6 school places and ten children 4 are going uneducated , if you have 6 beds and 10 sick people 4 are going to die . Open your eyes , us as a country is over populated and its only going to get worse this is your children's future and we think we have it bad .

we actually have schools in england where the primary language of the school is NOT english - I think that is completely wrong, I am happy with culturally diverse but this is ridiculous

 Nothing new in the BBC trotting out the government line--complete load of b*llock's, anyone that lives in London who thinks crime is bad now just wait until the Roma people arrive :o

Successive governments have ruined this country through uncontrolled immigration, DSS benefits are for the world to claim plus of course our world wide NHS system

This island of ours is tiny and some of our cities are full to bursting, we don't need hoards of extra people coming here to stuff the population out more and spread resources ever more thinly.
Taking jobs is one thing but taking benefits that us as tax payers are funding makes me exasperated.
It needs to stop and the government need to do something about it and very soon.

Would a referendum on Europe help, or would it be too late? Am I right in saying that whilst in Europe we have no say over this? But then what about the benefits to staying in Europe (which are what??).

We have to follow the rules on who can come to the UK - ie anyone in the EU .... but whether we choose to give them dole is up to us, there is nothing stopping the government from making a rule about who gets benefits and NHS - its a simple process really, after all, who's country is it ?
