Oh FFS.. Now the roof guard.

Yes next on the not made very bloody well list are the plastic hinges that hold the roof guard to the metal pole.

Pulled the guard down to click it into place to allow me to lower the roof today and one of the hinges falls apart meaning the whole guard is hanging off now. FFS...
 
Sorry mate....my windscreen has been clicking this last day or two........
 
argh! I'm sure there's some sort of fix/recall to the roof tray. A couple of people on here have had some part replaced I'm sure.

Looking forward to my warranty expiring in 2 months!!! :?

Sell it or pay for an extended warranty.. Far too many things to go wrong on these cars! Lightweight materials my arse, cheap materials more like.. :thumbsdown:
 
Planning to extend the warranty.

I'm a bit worried about the rear light clusters at the mo. They seem to quite easily mist up with drops of condensation forming now and again...

I had the roof up and down a few times over the weekend and moved the roof tray a few times. Always very careful as it does feel quite fragile.

Let us know what your dealer says.
 
Oh yeah the rear light clusters.. Which were replaced after they filled with water and blew.. They've got condensation in again.. Keeping an eye on that one too! Did I already say FFS!!
 
Depending on how much condensation is in them at the time of the mot, I might mention this to the dealer. I've had one replaced, but both of them mist up every now and again.
 
I has my roof tray replaced a couple of months after getting the car with the same problem, my thoughts exactly a bit week, not cheap material though just badly designed.

Very probable that I won't be keeping my car more than 3 years.

Take a look at the indicator section to be sure. It's hard to notice at first but after a little condensation it starts to settle in the lamp and you can't see it unless the car rocks side to side.
 
Going in on Thursday... New roof tray/guard thingy to be fitted... oh, and after a very close inspection I notice the lights are full of water again, rocking the car to see the water move around... so its going to get its second set of light clusters too! (how many FFS can I get in one thread)
 
:? mine is just a bit of condensation, bit I suspect since the air is a bit drier today, they will dry out. Thankfully I've not had the "puddle" of water again! Only one of my rear clusters was replaced before.
 
Well I say 'full' of water because I'm rolling my eyes at the same time. There's just condensation on the passenger side but around 3mm of water on the drivers side, along with the condensation. These have been replaced once already. Clearly whatever the fault with the lamps, they've not quite sorted it out yet. You can't really tell unless you move the car as the water looks like the clear section of the indicators. When you move the car you see what looks like the plastic move (but its water). Handy if you get stuck in a desert tho.
 
Someone has mentioned in another thread the light units have been modified due to stress seperating the lens from its back where the mounting points are.

If all else fails, why not drill a small hole in the bottom of the lens :)

I seem to recall the old Z4 had this problem with the headlights as with the 1 Series, my 118d M Sport would get condensation in the headlamp unit :(

As the car is only 2.5 yrs old, its still under warranty and I'll not be drilling or modifying anything as thats a great reason for a dealer to say 'tough luck'... I'll use the best of the warranty to get things sorted while I can. Here's hoping the latest cars have improved build techniques. I think this will be the last time I buy a new model car, exclusivity comes at too high a price.

Exclusivity...? No chance of that for much longer. You will soon see a new white sDrive 20i parked on every street corner! :P
 
lol too true, but it was exclusive a couple of years back when I got it :) Besides, I'm not worried by the influx of 20i's, I have a 35i and size is after all what matters :rofl:
 
New roof tray... sorted..

New rear clusters (due to water ingress) er.. not sorted. As it turns out they've decided the rear lamps have a design flaw, and they've only just started informing dealers that if clusters are refitted there's a new sealant pack that also needs to be added consisting of some grommets (not the wallace type) and sealing foil. Which are on back order from Germany, because everybody wants it now they know its needed to sort the clusters permanently. So I get her back tomorrow, only to have to take it back in a weeks time for new lamps and a sealing kit to be applied.

So.. if you've had new clusters or are having clusters that fog/mist/collect water, they're still likely prone to do it again and this kit should sort it... who knows if it will become a recall, sorry I mean 'performance enhancement', but it looks like its heading that way.
