Not the first time I've seen this happen and I doubt it will be the last, however it was a dealership car and not a customers unlike some in the past.

Saying that just after I changed my car I got a call from the dealership asking if I was interested in a new car, as I hadn't bought it from them they were unaware of my change in car. When I told the guy I had got a new car he asked what it was. After I told him he said, wow! That's a beast of a car before following it up with 'well if you ever need aby servicing or work done just let us know. I live near by so I can collect it from you'. Needless to say I've never taken them up on that offer but I've almost been run over by my car speeding out of a bmw dealership by a tech on a test drive.

How about this clown mechanic "testdriving" a customers Focus Rs after brakes & a service  apparently as a gesture of goodwill his payment was returned by the garage owner

You mean the mechanic wasn't sacked. Disgraceful.

He may well have been , it was a family owned business & the guy was a employee
He was also interviewed by the police for obvious reason's
Apparently the guy had used the same garage for many years & the previous service he had left the car brimmed with fuel & on collecting it was almost half empty :o naughty boys

That BMW is probably repairable, definitely not so sure on the Merc in the link below...

That was the last incident I could recall and hence my comments it won't be the last unfortunately but unlike the merc the BM was a dealership car, not a customers. Guy had a right mare over it too, possibly doesn't help with that headline the car was now older and had depreciated somewhat from the original new price but quite rightly he wanted to be reimbursed for the cost to replace. Annoying when you are driving and in an accident but I'd loose my sh!t if I turned up to find my car wrecked by the garage and to be told oh you'll only get market value.

One of my friends was a mechanic at BWM Rybrook in Worcester, he told me a story that one of his colleagues crashed a customers Z3MC on a test drive after a service... the guy kept his job and the garage had to fix the car and sell it for the customer.
He also told me that when measuring valve clearances on the S54 that if the shims were out and they weren't available off the shelf then some mechanics wouldn't bother to change them... can't trust anyone :x

When I was a student I valeted for various big name dealers- bmw, lotus, audi merc etc and the mechanics and workshop staff's attitudes towards customers cars would shock you. (not all of them to be fir as some really care)
