It's a Japanese thing originally, adopted by the VW community. Seen it all sorts of Jap machinery, and recently on VW / Audi etc. and a few E36s.

Hope it doesn't catch on. Looks plain dangerous to me.... aside from looking ridiculous. :thumbsdown:
