Oh dear, didn’t expect this.

Left the car with a mechanic this morning to look at my engine management light being on and for them to do a general inspection.

Just called to say I need new pads and discs on the front, (they was new 6 months ago) due to a calipers sticking. New brake lines due to rust. 4 new tyres due to uneven wearing due to my suspension apparently being set up all wrong. (got coil-overs fitted and had a specialist set them up, so I thought)

Also have a couple of oil leaks too.

£1350, with PS4 tyres so not too bad I guess for all the work. The oil sensor is £173 from bmw alone that they think is causing the engine management light to be on :(
 
They have sent me photos of everything they have mentioned apart from the brakes.

The garage is actually a client and I trust them 100%.

Just an unexpected bill I didn’t want :(?
 
Depending on your driving style you could always save a few quid by fitting Falken Azenis FK510, or save even more by fitting Nankang Noble Sport NS20.
 
They say you need new pads and discs because of "sticking calipers" but what are they going to do about the sticking? IMO, if they were sticking that badly to wear out new discs and pads in 6 months (how many mile?) you would have known about it from the brake fade and smell..

I’ve probable done 6,000 on them. They are going to strip the calipers down to see what the problem is. They said it maybe another £100 to replace the calipers too

I’ve probable done 6,000 on them. They are going to strip the calipers down to see what the problem is. They said it maybe another £100 to replace the calipers too

THAT sounds suspect to me in itself, seeing as a reconditioned caliper is about £60 and a new one will be £hundreds..

£90 a euro part so I guess they will get it at trade and change for fitting.
 
OP - are both pads and discs 6 months old? Or is it only the pads which are 6 months old?
 
Bought one the other day for [ref]jamie_z4[/ref]'s blue shed, Pagid reconditoned - was £60 inc vat trade..

I would want to know WHY they want to replace the discs..

I have just had my drivers side brake caliper replaced as it seized after new front pads were fitted - cost £77 for the part.

They said it has been sticking a while and the disc had over heated.

Both 6 months old.

Had all new Brembo pads and discs :(

That’s nuts.

Surely the garage who fitted these parts would have noticed that you had caliper issues though? Or am I missing something here?
 
That's not a happy tale. :( Reads like the garage that fitted your Brembo's are a school of sharks.
 
If the brakes are as bad as they say did you notice anything when driving it. Did the car pull to the side or vibrate under braking etc. If they mean by overheated the brakes discs have warped you would usually notice this as the driver.
By uneven tyre wear what exactly has happened?could something else be coming into play here. Have they check for worn bushes etc

After being in this trade for more than 45 years I would suggest you need to learn who to trust a lot more. :(

I had a siezed front caliper on my zed, this was just 4 months after new discs and pads were fitted by dealer. New caliper was required and a disc had been warped when checked. Discs and pads were replaced FOC by dealer due to short time period, I just paid for a new caliper.
