Oh dear, Yellow Engine light

Yesterday, my M started to feel a little rough, felt like dirt in the fuel line, sort of stuttering just above 2k and loss of power.

Booked in for Monday, any clues what this might be? Haven't had the car that long so not overly concerned as the warranty will cover it.

Just glad it wasn't a red engine light. :headbang:

99% O2 sensor.. if you're still under warranty it's probably a good thing it fails now.

Warranty is a must with this car as we run the 330 without one but we've had it from pretty new.
What are you going to do to keep your Z4M under warranty all the time? In Belgium something like this is not possible (I think).

My Z4M still has one year of BMW warranty... But after this period it is finished... I'm not so worried about it. If the engine does not blow up, then every cost that will come in years will be payable I hope.

You can't extend it as we can here?

Erm I thought it was just an Annual \ Monthly cost? via those friendly BMW warranty peeps? I'm surprised they haven't got a similar setup in Belgium

I'm going to check if this is possible with my BMW dealer... I never heard of this being available in Belgium. How much do you guys pay for a annual warranty (for example the basic warranty = drive line) on your Z4M? If it's possible in Belgium then the basic warranty on the drive line looks interesting to me. The engine and drive train are the biggest cost and on warranty those would be nice...

Overview.
DriveLine Insured Warranty is our basic level of warranty and protects the main components that contribute to the engine, transmission and drive-train of your BMW. DriveLine cover is available to all vehicles, regardless of mileage.

Insured Warranty can either be purchased annually or on an ongoing, monthly basis. If you choose the monthly cover option, the price is fixed for a 12 month period. You can also choose whether or not you wish to include an excess with your Insured Warranty policy. This excess is only payable in the event of you making a claim, but including an excess in your policy can reduce the cost of your premium.

I've just had the exact same issue indi could not correctly diagnose so ended up taking it to the steelers, after one hour they told me it wasnt the coil then another hour later said it was bank one pre cat O2 ended charging me two hours diagnostics & then another £260 to replace. Like an idiot I've soaked the cost but proper rinsed it seems a very common issue, if I had known I wouldn't have bought the car, to fair I think it's very poor customer service & a very unreliable car.
The engine has been around for very long time so would have thought all the issues would have been ironed out.
By the way my car is full bmwsh with 29k so you see I wouldn't have thought I would be having these issues.

I had the yellow light a few weeks back & got the dealer to read the code & re-set (O2 sensor)

After finding out about the Scanguage 2 (in the Z4 forum) I thought this might be a good investment, & it was, as the light came on again about 4 – 5 times over the next couple of weeks showing the same problem, yet it hasn’t come on again (touch wood) for a few weeks now, so I’m wondering if the sensor just had a bit of muck on it that has cleared? Either way without the Scanguage I would have been back to the dealer & probably ended up forking out £100’s to have it changed.

And with now having the device mounted on the dash all the time, I have gained 4 extra gauges that I didn’t have before! Apparently these things are mainly intended to help you monitor your mile per gallon & help you drive more economically, for some reason.

Bit sad to say but feel my Z is the first car I've ever owned with a personality. Growls along very happily, but has the odd quirk but wouldn't change it for the world.

Once every so often I have a yellow light thing from from the blown light bulb sensor, though tap the brakes & it goes out. Almost feels like the car likes me touching it up. Know from researching what this is, but until the tempoary fix gets annoying will leave well alone. Then there's the window thing. Put the roof up when it's time for bed & again every so often do the windows want to stay up.. little bu@@ger likes to play & lowers them after they've reached the top... almost as if it's saying it's too early. I tell it to behave & wind them up again & guess what... right as rain... does make me smile.

Conclusion, most useless piece of advice ever... 'talk to your Z'... but you never know

It's booked in tomorrow and I'll probably keep the warranty going for a few years until it reaches the mileages where going indy makes sense.

@Jembo

My Corrado VR6 was like that, but for the most part was incredibly reliable, even at the end with 146k on the clock. :)
