Finally somebody grew some guts and took the guy down...
Shameful! they should have got him a lot sooner.
Well, this happened in Russia (the cell phone vids have audio), but speaking as someone that manages in an office environment in the US, I'd say no. What should have happened is the management team should have cleared everyone from the area before anyone else was injured, then called security. Too many people were milling around watching, screaming, and waiting to get hit by another CRT or lamp. The objective isn't to protect the computers, but the
people. I'd have only taken him down if he was whaling on someone, and he wasn't - aside from the guy hit over the head at the beginning of the breakdown, everyone else was simply in the way when the tantrum occurred. Besides, over here tackling the guy would likely lead to an assault charge for the subduer, and a hefty lawsuit. Left alone in an empty office, the flare-up would have burned out in 2-3 minutes.
We had something similar happen where I work about 15 years ago, when I started with the company. A quiet, slightly weird guy went off at a Christmas party - turned over a printer, kicked over some other equipment, screaming about a cheating whore. Turned out he had a crush on a girl in the office who'd brought her boyfriend to the party - seeing her kiss him on the cheek set the co-worker off. She was shocked later - the guy had never spoken to her, she barely knew he existed, but apparently the relationship went quite deep in his head. My boss at the time cleared the floor except for himself, me, and another large athletic type. We just watched him rage for a bit, after that he broke down and cried. Within an hour, he was an ex-employee, leaving quietly with his stuff in a box.
