Office chairs

I know a fair few of you "work from home" so I thought it'd be a good question to post on here. I am looking for a chair for my home office as my new job role allows some working from home. I am looking for something that is nice to sit in as the primary goal, and something that looks nice is secondary (but obviously nice to have). Preferably something that doesn't break the bank, so that probably rules out Herman Miller Aaeron, unless 2nd hand.

Interested to hear your experiences with the various options :)
 
Ever read this (link)? Surprisingly, Ikea gets a good rating, and not too expensive...

My old home office chair was a Staples special, cost around £150, and I would not recommend it as a long term option for anyone who doesn't have a hot line to a chiropractor.

My current home office chair is one of these - again, not one i'd recommend.

My current work office chair is one of these link. Not bad cost wise, very comfortable and lots of adjustment options. I'm tempted to buy one for my home office (although wifey objects as the current one "looks fine". Trying man maths on her now.... :))
 
Thanks markeg. Ideally I would like one that allows you to quickly adjust the angle of the back. My current work chair has a lever which you can pull, push the back backwards and then let go of the lever to lock it. A lot of chairs I see are either locked upright or not locked. does your work chair do that? If so I might look at that one.
 
You need to go and try them out - certainly don't go buying one online without sitting in one first, as every type of chair is different and your body is different to everyone elses. Definitely don't choose a chair based on cost or you'll regret it later. You also need to consider whether your desk and PC screen are at the correct height as this will also be important for your chair selection. Does your company offer an online DSE assessment so you can check out your posture?

I've got an IKEA desk - good because it is height adjustable (not electric but that was an option!) and I moved it a few times during the first few months of my home office (I work full time from home). I got a chair from Staples which has good adjustability and support, although in hindsight I wish it didn't have fixed arms because they can restrict height setting due to fouling the edge of the desk when I want to get close to the desk/pc.

If you are sitting at a PC for long periods of time you need the chair set to offer the appropriate support. Being able to move the back position quickly shouldn't be a requirement if it is set correctly....

Hi,

I have just built my home office and the height of the desk is standard desk height (can't remember exactly what that was). I have dual monitors which are on arms, so height is completely flexible. I had an assessment at work so I know what to look for in that respect... posture wise I am a cross between quasimodo and early caveman... one reason I'm trying to do my best to get something ergonomic to try and correct it best I can.

Yeah, although I tend to like to recline more when I'm on a long conf call... and also my wife will also be using the chair and so being able to quickly adjust these things would be useful.
 
We got Mike's one from Groupon, very cheap, aesthetically pleasing and very comfy. It reclines and goes up and down. He spends long periods of time on it and no complaints, had it about 3 years. Think it was less than £100. Might be worth a browse.
 
I've been using a Stressless Metro high back for the past 18 months and love it, very comfortable but a tad pricey depending on your budget. I bought it from these people who delivered to me in the evening, assembled it and ensured I was happy with it. Couldn't fault the service.

Sort of. Not a full recline but a partial one - check out the video on the linked page as it shows the amount of lean you can get.

Had the same dilemma and didn't like any so I made mine. The chair is from an escort RS Turbo and I got the seats x 2 from eBay for £100and the bases were £30 each I think.

We have Aerons on the client site, but whatever you do, don't kneel on them to talk to your colleague at another desk...as you may find your knee goes right through the base mesh :oops:

That Ikea one looks very similar to the one I bought my dad, but his isn't 'leather/vinyl' but a dark cloth. Price sounds familiar, and his reclines to about 20/30 degrees and locks into whichever position you set. His also has shiny metalwork, so it might be an older/earlier model.

Some nice ones there... also been watching Silicon Valley recently... some expensive chairs on there!
 
I have the Ikea Markus (#7 in the list Markeg posted) and its very comfortable, excellent support (and it reclines enough that you can snooze on it :P :lol: ) had it for 2 or 3 years now and its still very comfortable and together (i find a lot of chairs like these tend to deteriorate) Well worth the £130 price tag and a lot of chair for the money imo
