You could still buy a wee diesel runabout. Especially if you get £4.5K for the wheels ! Actually come to think of it, i'll sell my wheels for £4K !!

senwar, glad you came to your senses. The 123d is a nice car and that was a nice spec but the loss on the ///M is too much. Have you got another car for the Mrs or anything?
I leased a Micra 1.2 in July because I was fed up driving the SLK into Leeds and leaving it there all day in a public car park, best thing I ever did. it costs me £150 per month incl road tax, did it for 3 years. Always under warranty, no repair bills to worry about, only the service at 2 years old.
And now when I get in the SLK again I love it, every weekend it's like having a new car :sweetheart: And you don't appreciate how good a car is until you drive something like a Micra.
I reckon I will easily keep the SLK for 3 (possibly 4) years now without getting fed up of it, and that's all down to not using it every day. And while the depreciation is still hurting me a bit, over 4 years I expect it to have lost £18-20k which isn't bad at all, between £4 and 5k per annum, and I can live with that.

Ouch! I took £10k in year one which was more than enough. I can't take more than £6k per year average :thumbsdown:
Problem is dealers sold them new cheap. I got mine at an amazing price new, could not believe it at all. But when you look at the market with 997 911's are mid 30's you see why our have gone down.
I'd imagine my 08 car would be worth mid to late 20's top private, not worth selling if you can buy a shed for £1k and keep the nice beastie!

Sounds like a happy customer then keeping an ///M istead of a 1 series.
Deprecition is so oft forgotten in the running of cars. My X5 was a £45k purchase new that is probably now worth about £12k, but if I take a step back it's still in factory showroom new condition, has every single extra possible and despite it's heavy fuel and increasing road tax cost me next to nothing in maintenance, depreciation has all but stopped, gives me what I need to tow Jeeps around and so will likely keep it another 5 years. Alternative of a new X5 at £50k with associated tax costs and depreciation is way too frightening.
Same with my Zed. Now fully specced as I want. Pretty much every extra, no real depreciation anymore and IMHO look brand new Vs the need to spend another say £25k for new.
No changing cars fo me just to save money on mileage and fuel costs or to lower but newer models

I always said that this car was a good 6-8k overpriced. That's not helped.
Must be honest tho and say I expected that kind of offer at the 3yr mark. Not after 20 months. Hey ho.

I'd also say, that for value these motors offer astonishing value at the current prices. Just so much car for the money. Great for the buyers.

I see the November issue ot Total BMW has a feature on buying a used ///M coupe. Summary seems to be a great buy, for a starting price of just £18k...ouch....Real good one's for £20k+. Didn't have time to read it as I just looked as I surfed the rack at WHSmiths.

Yep it takes a bit of getting used to. I do think that leasing might be the way forward, no nasty depreciation shocks, no messing around, just drive around then hand it back after 2/3 years, less deposit than a PCP or balloon, and you seem to be able to get away with more vehicle damage ie. one dent per panel is deemed acceptable.

Ive just paid 27.5 for a 57 plate black m coupe - red leather fully loaded. Its only a year old - and hhad like 950 miles on the clock!
Im guessing thats a good deal - im still thinking im going to be losing 8k in another year. Then again the coupes seem to be keeping value better than the roadsters do - at least fully loaded they are.
Oppinions?
