Off to look at a p/ex tomorrow

Well, much against my heart/head/everything, I'm off to look at possibly chopping in the car tomorrow.

Long story short, but my work may be changing and I may need something a little more economical. So off to look at a 123d coupe tomorrow. Quite high spec too.

Anyway, has anyone got any experience of the 123d at all? Perhaps not the right board to ask, but hey.

Also, I know I'm going to be mugged, but any thoughts of trade in value for mine? For info, the 123d is March 08 and £24,990. I'm going to look at the cost to change, not solely the p/ex value, but I'm just interested to know. Also looking at lowering my monthly payments.

Part of me hopes that there isn't a deal forthcoming, but as I say, I need to check it out. The 20 months I've had this beast have been the most enjoyable ever. But needs possibly must.

I'd always said I'd get either an X5, or a 5 series next, but I might just go down the economical route. For example, the tax is £120, and insurance just over £300. Thats less than it will cost me just to tax the M in Feb.

Thoughts?

Sorry to hear you are thinking this way.

Be interestered to hear what you think of the 123d though - It's on my list of possible replacements when the time comes...

senwar - let me know about wheels, im going to be around sheffield on the 15th of Nov :)

As for the 1 series, my mate has a highish speced 118d and i have to admit that whilst i wasnt a mega fan of the the non-facelifted verion, its a mega car. Its very VERY well refinied (ensure its sport - im sure it will), being a 2l oil burner certainly shifts and has amazing fuel econ

The seats are wicked! :)

Good luck :)

This is the one I'm going to look at - 123d M Sport

As I say, its pretty well specced, only thing I'd miss is the heated seats, and would have liked the upgraded stereo, but hey ho.

My mates had a 120d 5 door for 4 years and loves it. I didn't personally like the coupe when it came out, and I would see it as a significant drop if you get me, but would meet my requirements. Also the colour/interior is virtually the same as mine!

They are mean't to be nice car's! But I think the deal they will offer you, will mean you will keep the ///M.

Man you're mad as a hatter. For the money your M has dropped in value, just keep it. Get yourself a 1.9TDI golf from the auctions for £1500 and rag the sh*^ out of it on a daily basis. Then, when the sun comes out, and the roads are quiet and the birds are singing in the trees.....M TIME

Hell you could even sell the CSLs to pay for the new golf.

Don't do it......

Also I reckon a 123 of that price has only one way to go and you might do in and saving on depreciation. Then you'd have sold your M for nothing.

Don't do it......

I know exactly what you mean mate - BUT another reason behind this is that I will not be keeping longer than 14 months more anyway as a very maximum (will have had it 3 years then). Has always been my intention, and I will be sticking to it to be honest. Hence, its balancing up the cost over the next 12 months or so against depreciation too.

Don't get me wrong, I very much doubt I'll want to do it, even if I do. Because this car is my pride and joy. But as I say, there are reasons behind it (I hit a similar issue in February this year, but likewise, the swap wasn't right for me.

totally agree.. i have a £1400 406 HDI 90 with 140k on the clock which has cheap insurance, cheap tax and does 800 miles on a tank. the 1er will drop loads too, so ur onto a losing battle.

I actually hear your point totally, but i think a few of us will be having similar thoughts at the moment so will be quite passionate about arguing the case - as we convince ourselves..

I agree, your M will be worth at least twice the value of a 123d in a few years time (go and compare Z3coupe and 330d prices on autotrader to get an idea).
Get along to the car auctions and buy a cheapie to use everyday, you won't believe how cheap cars can be brought for at the moment.

Sorry to hear you're thinking about chopping in the Z. If the CSLs are genuine I'll take them off your hands to soften the blow.

Not driven the 123d but have a 120d, it's never going to set the world alight but it wasn't meant for that.

Thought about a second hand 330d or 335d?

Oh and negotiate hard, Ive received a voucher from 2 Sytner dealers last week offering me 1k off any AUC, they seem desperate to do deals atm.

jamiez, Don't think the wheels will fit a non M

Well, I can now report I will be keeping the M for at least another year.

Basically I was shown an M coupe they have for sale in Huddersfield for £22,950. A 56 plate with a lesser spec. So I just said 'is that the price I'm looking at?' to which they said, no it will be less. I stopped him there and said forget it, don't wanna waste anymore of both of our times.

So I'd probably be looking at £22k if I was lucky. A 20 grand drop in 20 months. And then I'd have a bit of negative equity PLUS have to shell out up to £3k for the 123d. No chance forget that!

A major part of me is glad as again I've realised I'm not getting rid. But I'm just appalled at the depreciation. I know its the market/climate etc but jesus.

Thing is, I nearly turned back on the M1 this morning as I just thought to myself 'no, don't want to do this'.

So at least the car I'm 'stuck' with is a beaut!

You made the right decision, the 1er is at the top of its depreciation curve about to fall... at least you've already don't that with the M.

Now about those wheels! cash or cc? :P

Lol

Did I mention I'd want 4.5k for my wheels..... (given the trade in value!)
