My steering wheel is slightly off bonk and is driving me crazy. The car doesn't pull, so the tracking seems fine?
.
Will I have to have the "4 Wheel alignment / hunter alignmemt" to correct the issue? (I'm hoping not as it isn't a cheap job!)
If your alignment isn't out then it may be a simple case of taking off your steering wheel and putting it back on straight again. Mine is ever so slightly out as I think the outfit which aligned my wheels made a slight adjustment to just one of them.
Unless the steering wheel has been off for some reason then you have an alignment problem. You can get front alignment done cheaply. Full on four wheel hunter alignment will cost a lot more but I've just had mine done (£120) and the handling is hugely improved after years of run flats and potholes had taken their toll.
It would cost more for BMW to turn your wheel than just taking the car for a simple front wheel alignment at an independent garage. Just because the car doesn't pull doesn't mean its alignment is spot on. IMHO get the front tracking checked first, if it's not that get a garage to adjust the wheel or whatever is required. Alignment is important to handling and tyre wear. BMW will rip you off.
I had this prob on my comp car, Ford Smax after having new front tyres fitted.
Lease company would not let quick fit touch it.
Took it to Ford dealer for 4 wheel alignment and steering wheel went back to centre, as others have said if your steering wheel has not been removed this is quite likely the problem.
Agree with everyone above - my car's steering wheel was ever so slightly off centre when I got it and the car was not pulling at all. Had it aligned, was well out of whack, and the steering wheel was centred when I got it back
I have seen people on here get a Hunter alignment for £60-80 so not really expensive in comparison to lots of other things a car needs over it's life... Or indeed most of the mods people do to their cars
