OEM Wind Deflector is rattling - extended warranty claim?

Guys,

This is a bit of an old one, but OEM Wind Deflector is rattling - the piece in the roll hoop on the passenger side vibrates on uneven surfaces and rattles the hell out of me.

Ive got a claim going through with BMW Warranty (mondial) but they are trying to content saying " This would not normally be covered as they are not a mechanical or electrical component. However I will get the claims technicians to explain it further to you as we are not mechanically trained and are unable to provide detailed information." - i havent heard anything back from them yet so thought id get your input and go back to them :)

Any words of wisdom? Looking at whats not excluded from here http://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Pages/Information.aspx?page=Products/Comprehensive/Details.htm it does exclude "Trim, upholstery and cosmetic finishes" but i dont know if a Wind Deflector is "trim" or not?
Could I argue its "mechanical" since it has a function?

Any input appriciated!

Cheers
Jamie

Why not just re-fit it with something soft in between the 2 plastic pieces to stop the rattle? It'll probably save you a heck of a lot of time arguing, taking the car in etc! The hard part of solving rattles you've already done... you found it!

Your right and if i didnt have warranty i would do this, but since i have it - im going to fight my corner :)
Its more about proving a point :)

Jamie, it's trim so I doubt you will have any joy. If the gap is big enough a small amount of silicone would probably do the trick.

TBH I would sort myself and then use the warranty with bigger issues where you need to push when not covered so you don't use all your favours up so to speak.

Im experiencing exactly the same issue... its so god damn annoying!!!

When you apply pressure to it then it stops vibrating and buzzing. Dont if you have noticed but it seems to do it as soon as the stereo gets turned up a bit aswell!! Just another rattle to add to the list I think. :headbang:

Know what your saying - but warranty is warranty and doesnt have a max number of uses - plus you aint doing anyone a favour - the dealers make cash money from doign warranty work!!!

But as you say it's not covered so I would try and sort this myself and save the hassle for a bigger claim

Mine rattled so I used silicone, now it doesn't :D Done this with in the 3 year warranty, can't be arsed going back to the dealers for every little rattle.

Enjoy :driving:

Can you recommend an appropriate silicon product for this job? This is exactly what I am suffering from, for some reason exacerbated by concrete roads... :headbang:

My suggestion? Go with a better company! :P I've used OEM before on my BMW and Saturn, and they always suck. I use windblox now and they have a lifetime warranty. Leaves me with some peace of mind. Probably costs about the same to ship the windscreen to BMW and back again, too.

Replacing the windscreen stops the rattling?? :poke:
