OEM Wind Breaker

So, my 2013 E89 doesnt have a wind breaker. Coming from a long line of various convertibles I know the differecne these can make.
In researching Ive seen Perspex aftermarket that are secured by velcro around the hoops, I dont like the look. Ive seen hand made mesh 'socks' that slip over the hoops, I dont like these.
Ive seen the mesh OEM windstop but it appears I need certain hoop fittings. I seem to be all over the place with this. Does anyone have a definitive This is what you need, This is where you get it, This is how you fit it ?

So it looks like I need the centre mesh section, left and right hoop cover with the screw holes ( I see these are a simple push fit ) and a left and right bracket that screws onto the hoops covers.

Hi, i think some owners have screwed the wind deflector brackets directly onto their existing hoop covers.

It’s not that simple Rob, the hoop covers are two pieces each side with the joint bang centre of the deflector brackets, meaning you have to take the covers off and drill directly into the roll over hoops themselves. A bit of a pig to get them right apparently but doable with patience and a good eye for measuring.

I did this exact conversion using an OEM deflector just a few months ago.

I purchased the OEM deflector from ebay and the brackets that fit onto the silver roll hoops from a BMW dealer on ebay. I mounted the brackets onto my existing silver hoop covers.

I took off the silver roll hoop covers so you can see roughly where the holes for the bracket should be. I drilled holes bigger then that required for the screws to allow leeway in case where I drilled didn't exactly match where the hole for the screws should be. It doesn't matter if these holes are slightly larger since they will be covered by the brackets (of course do not drill them larger then the width of the bracket) and simply refitted the silver hoop covers and screwed the brackets into place.

Ah ok, I didn’t know the hoops were pre-drilled. I’m sure I’ve seen someone having to drill their own but I can’t be 100% as I can’t remember what I did 10 mins ago....... :lol:

DONT buy the brackets from Ebay, I nearly did that, he was selling them for around £20. I did a quick part check on realoem and the part direct from BMW was about £4 the pair!

I got them off a BMW main dealer (can't remember which one) selling on eBay and yes they were around 4 or 5 GBP.

I screwed mine into the blank hoops, no problem.
But later found out when taking the hoops apart, the plastic pillars for the screws to fit in are already in the plastic underneath the outer trim.
I just missed them by guessing. With some proper measurement i could have drilled the holes in the right place on the outer trim.

Thanks for the clarification, if only there was an OEM version of the OE wind deflector since the OE deflector is so freaking expensive! :lol:

True! That is why I bought one second hand for a fraction of the new price. Just need to find the two little deflectors that sit inside the roll hoops now.

The high price of OEM is why I went for a Lexan sheet and some Velcro straps. Lots of sellers on eBay and Amazon for the plastic sheet ones in clear or tint.
Works a charm & easy to see through.

Seen the Lexan sheets but wouldnt like having velcro straps wrapped around my hoops, even the clear velcro straps.

Mine has the wind deflectors in the headrest hoops but I didn't get the larger deflector that goes inbetween, should it have come with it or is it normal to buy them separately and do I need it with having the headrest ones?
