oem strut brace

has anyone fitted an oem strutbrace to an si as the adivce form bmw is that it does not fit. also is there any physical difference in the si to the 3.0i or is it all internal
 
I think the problem with the OEM brace on the SI engine is the oil cap. It is directly underneath where the strut brace goes. So the strut brace has to be removed when oil is changed / added. I think a few people have installed it anyway.
 
Kdawg is correct-it fits directly over the oil filler cap and tightly against the air intake tube. Fits, though.

lol, makes you wonder why they added the oil cap there really, as many strut braces will foul it.

why not mount the brace back to front? it would miss it then ;)
 
It won't go on backwards. I tried.


Maybe on a pre-facelift you can get it to go, but not on 2006 and up.

And no it won't miss it completely, just won't be over dead center.

And the four pot........ no probs there, Makes you wonder why an oem part should cause so many ixxues with fitting to so many of their cars

The brace was designed for the pre-facelifted Z4's. It just so happens that it fits the Z4M's and the facelifted Z4's.

And am I the only one who doesn't understand the big fuss about the OEM strut brace blocking the oil cap? Just remove 6 nuts, lift up the strut brace and lay it aside, and there you go.

But we're talking half a pint of oil at least every 20,000 miles :o :o :o :telloff: Thats almost as bad as having to remove the side covers before you put the roof up!

Next thing you'll be telling me I have to open the doors to get in the bloody car! :fightwall:
