OEM Sat Nav - important or not?

If for no other reason than resale. It's one of the most desirable things to have on the list when you go looking. Sadly it's too expensive and you won't make your money back, but it will help when you come to sell on the car.

Why though? Not sure I understand why it's desirable.

Me no likey. Was not on my must-list when car-shopping.

I'd have liked it but I wouldn't have paid extra for extra for it ..hence there was no way I was getting it

Must haves for me on the coupe was sport spec, 108's, new tyres, serviced within 2k or 2months, AUC and no more expensive than other none franchised dealer cars ..I'd have put xenon's above the factory sat nav in terms of desirable items too.

I like it. Wish it was better though. Problem with Portable satnav for me is my memory - any device I have that is re-chargeable and i don't use that often that doesn't have a plugged in cradle or a plug permanently in the socket is never charged when I want to use it. Drills, torches, satnav's, road angel... The list is long, expensive and redundant cos I always forget...

Can't you plug the TomTom in when need to use it? That's what I do!

I hate wires round the cabin, my Berry uses the lighter socket, and I am too lazy / incompetent to wire power in permanently. I have got a four-way 12v lighter adapter thingy, but that's just way to travelling salesman

Used my Nav once on the way back from the lakes & dales run last year. Apart from that not switched it on. So not on my essentials list.

Defo agree with the first point

But not on the second, as I personally think the upper dash is too long and bland, especially if you have the aluminum trim

My sat nav has the speed cam options so warns me when approaching an 'accident blackspot' :wink: Just need to keep the DB up to date

Nav just works, my TomTom takes forever to get a lock, is unclear on where to go and the wires are all over the place - not to mention it falls off the windscreen at regular intervals. Then I need to remember to get it out of the boot. Not to mention that the OEM is much faster than a TomTom in routing anyway.

Not to mention all the other benefits you miss when you don't have the screen as not all computer functions are unlocked for non nav owners. Finally, flimper specs are much more difficult to shift.

We have the OEM sat nat in the X5. We've used it about half a dozen times in 5 years, so it wasn't high on my priorities for the Zed.

Are we talking about sat nav or the screen in general. Because nav is nav, but the functionality is so much better than the crappy BMW business head unit. Because it is much more useful, like DSP TV bluetooth telematics all works awesome on mine always have the computer up and just love the flip up screen it is pretty unique and novelty one of my favourite little quirks of the car infact.

Good point I do play with the other functions & the phone is real easy to set, plus passengers do love it. 8)

Not sure I need to know my average speed via screen when I can press the button and find out on the dash.

This was one of the reasons I retrofitted to my last car, I didn't like the long bland upper dash.

Nav does it's job if you want to get from A to B. Bluetooth is Easier/Quicker to navigate through phone book than without Nav.

Adding an Intravee then gives you more functionality, which can be used without a screen but would require a laptop to carry out every function I believe.

Can't buy a Z4M here without it...

I think the tech really shows its age though. And why does the chosen route show as a white line? That makes no sense to me.

I generally drive the car with the screen closed. Make of that what you will.

Opposite here - I usually drive with it open, as changing tracks on the ipod through the MFSW opens it anyways.
