OEM Radio question.

I didn't find this info in a search so please excuse if I missed it.
I have a 2004 Z4 3.0i (build date Nov 03) with a Business CD radio.
Am I correct that this radio cannot play MP3 CD's? I thought I read somewhere that it wasn't until the second half of 04 that models had MP3 ability.
And If I wanted to get an OEM radio that does read MP3 disc's, what year model should it come from to make sure I get it? There are many on e-bay.

I think I am right in saying that the grey CD radio will only play CD's, but the later dated black CD radio will in fact play MP3

I would change to a completely new system, not worth paying so much for a BMW cd player. or just an ipod lead or an intravee

Hmm... I want my ipod fitted, but think with the car being a roadster, an aftermarket headunit means removing the stereo face all the time... especially when parked with the top down. I see this as a hassle I dont have right now (oem headunit)

Being that its a Roadster, And I often leave the top down when parked for short times in public (stores, resturants) I think the OEM radio is not likely to be stolen. Also $120 to $150 for an OEM on ebay doesnt seem to steep for a radio that sounds pretty decent compared to many other OEM systems.

So If I go for an OEM non navigation (which is what I have now) from a 2006 Z4 It should be able to play MP3 disks? Correct?
