OEM Interior Trim - Leather

May be something covered already - but I'm buggered if I could find the right search term for the site or the google!

I was thinking the other day, looking at the acres of brushed aluminium in my car and thinking it'd look rather good covered in the same kind/colour leather as the seats.

Mine's the Oregon? Red (06 2.0 SE)

Is this something anyone has tried?

I am thinking of getting a set of trims and finding an interior trimmer to do the work but my main thought right now is there might be a problem with sizing...

The trim is fitted pretty snug obviously and leather isn't the thinnest material in the world.

Anyone done this, thought about it and been told no? Any recommendations for someone in the South East who would be competent to do the work or supply the leather needed to cover the three trim pieces?

Anyone got any old/cosmetically damaged interior trim for sale?

Ideas, thoughts, suggestions, abuse welcomed....
 
Not entirely sure how this would look, but... best bet, in my book...

Buy a damaged trim on eBay - anything will do given your plans.

Buy some leather, similar to Oregon, again, any colour.

Unbolt one of the seats push forward and snip off a small section of leather. Send the leather off and get a colouring kit - strip, colour and laqueur. Recolour the leather.

Fit to the trim panels. Fit trim panels to the car.

Sell the old trim on eBay and make back some of the money. Easy :)
 
Thanks Pawn, I'm keeping my eyes on eBay but will leave the covering to a pro - I can't stitch a button on a shirt without making a horlicks of it.

I'll keep the OEM ones, for future trade in mine is staying stock as much as possible.
 
Saw this on a BMW compact : Red car, with red painted inlays etc. Looked quite good.

I think it's a viable project. You can get by with fairly thin leather, which will stretch even thinner over edges. You probably will need to trim the tighter openings wider, such as the light switch. Keep us posted!
 
Be interested if you get anywhere with this... Have tossed the idea round my head for mine ever since I bought it, but figured it would cost a bomb so haven't even looked into it to be honest :oops:
