OEM HID Issue

Hi all,

Having a bit of bother with my offside dipped xenon...the warning light lights up on the instrument panel showing me the bulb hasn't fired up, I had a quick look through the access panel and everything seemed as it should (as i was blaming a pot hole i hit the other day).

However, giving the housing a good firm tap from the outside (with the lights turned on) fires the bulb up.

So, would i be correct in assuming that the issues lies with the ignitor rather than the bulb itself? Possibly the pot hole has dislodged the ignitor from its usual snug fit?

Suppose I should really get in there and have a look and try and reseat it, to fully tell.

Just wondered if its a common problem, that the ignitor slips out of position?

Simply cannot tell from a 'tap' what is then working. It could be bulb, ballast, igniter or connections.

I'd start by disconnecting the bulb and igniter, reconnecting a see what happens. If no change do some left to right swapping of bulb, ballast and igniter to see if you move the problem to the other side.

Of course no touching with lights on due to high voltage of xenon....

Thanks for the advice....I wasn't really expecting anyone to diagnose the exact issue from a "tap", or maybe I was. Either way, I'm a complete tool and should have looked before posting.

Not Xenons at all. Just those high brilliance halogens. Checked the spec via the vin number and no Xenons fitted despite having headlight washers. Didn't realise that they were an option for non Xenons. Also the level adjust is present.

Bought a new pair of H7s and all good.

Strange that a halogen should bring up the warning light and then come back to life though, I would have thought that if the filament goes, then it's gone?

No problems now though and thanks again.

OK - glad solved. Halogen is of course different and a 'tap' probably just shakes the filament back into a temporary connection.

You indeed could get washers as an option with halogen, but no idea why anyone would spec them.
