Hi just looking through previous posts for a diy exhaust mod on a 3.0. found this in the link below.

All I can find is posts for the Z4M, Would I be right in thinking that my backbox is the same as the Z4M but I only have one :( rather than two.????

No :wink:

Your exhaust system consists of two pipes (I think you have a pfl 6 cil?), so first of all you have a backbox that has two inlets instead of on inlet (for each of the z4m's backboxes)
 
It's a similar design, but the layout is different. You can modify it in a similar manner, but the specifics will be different.

I don't know. maybe it has chambers, maybe not....

I also have an extra 3.0i backbox lying around... To upgrade to 2x2.25" diameter (or to see if it's possible), to match the rest of my exhaust system performance wise.
I just haven't gotten around to it.
 
This looks like fun. Think I like the look of the first link I put up. If I mess up the backbox i'll just have to buy another £50 ish so not big bucks

Acoustics are tricky. If you just want louder, start hacking away, you can't really go wrong. If you want truly better resonant, sonorous sound, it's a research project that is beyond the means of DIY mechanics. You're much better off with an already developed after market solution. IMHO of course.
 
Yeah would like a little more noise, nothing stupid. You'd think a 3.0 would give a descent sound, guess when they make these cars you have to please a big market.!!

Yes - Luke has already posted the link to my thread about it, which a few people kindly posted in. I bought a spare OE exhaust system for the job, so I can put it back if required.

I am very pleased with the results. I am quite lucky as I have a friend who really knows what he is doing with such things :-)

I did a trackday at Brandshatch on Monday, and got lots of comments as to how good it sounded.

What's the sound like after the mod. Are you happy with it.? Is it very loud.?

I don't want to start scaring cats out of trees and making old people fall over lol......I do however want to know I have a 3 litre straight 6 :D :D :D

Pretty damn happy with it! If anything is like it just a touch louder!
There are some video clips in the thread I posted :thumbsup:
