OEM Bluetooth

I went down to my local dealers today, to get a quote on the parts i need to install oem bluetooth.
my car is 08/03 build and prewired for car telephone (which apparently makes the job easier) - code 640

So the parts i require are bluetooth upgrade kit (part. 84640306465) and a BMW ULF Module.
i was quoted $1600 for the parts, and up to $700 extra for labour. (probably turn it into a DIY project tho)

i have to say i was more then shocked, but i do love the oem style, well maybe not so much now
does this seem like an accurate figure or is the dealer just trying to steal my hard earned?

hhmm marginally after exchange rate and postage its still around 1K for me.

im thinking totally after-market may be the most cost efficient option, but only if it can be hidden well

i like the sound of the motorola T605, but cant find anywhere that says if it can be fitted to my car or not, as a bonus it provides quality aux in and bluetooth A2dp so i can play songs off my iphone via bluetooth through the stereo.

Only practical way to do a retrofit on the Z4 is a second hand ULF module off ebay. Reckon on £200 for that. Then just buy the leads and microphone from Bimmernav and cradle and carpet from BMW. Easy job, but a lot of dismantling.

Frankly although I did it on both my X5 and Z4 unless you can get the bits cheap and really want the fully integrated solution then aftermarket is easier and cheaper.

Parrot do a kit that can be completely hidden from view using a CK3000/EVO and a multican interface as long as you have steering wheel controls.

Other than that if your not to desperate I may have a complete retrofit kit up for grabs soon, ULF, wiring loom, steering wheel cowl microphone, BT antenna, pairing button. It is a 1st gen ULF which isnt meant to be great but as CJ said you can pick them up on ebay fairly easily.

i have steering wheel controls, as of 2 weeks ago :D i looked at the parrot, but i have discovered something with possibly better specs, a motorola unit (TK30), if it will fit to my car it will end up much much cheaper then the parrot or OEM option and give me the usb input i have been searching for since i bought my Z. but fitting it will no doubt not be simple.

Otherwise if that doesnt work out i may look at your OEM bluetooth, but i have discovered it is painfully expensive to send things to my end of the world, and the cheapest ULF module on fleabay right now is $1200 :o
