OEM AGM Battery

Mine had an AGM battery from new.

i did replace it with another, but that didn't past particularly well, so back to a good brand 5 year warranty normal one.

Don't know what mine had in it from new as I got it at 2 years old, but it wasn't an AGM battery in there when I got it.

It's since been replaced (only once in 150,000 miles) by a Bosch S5 096.

That's good going. Unfortunately mine doesn't get regular use and I am unable to put it on a trickle charge. Five years or so out of a battery in the zed is about the norm for me. A lot better than a 993C2 I had, which were always fitted with a marginally sized battery from new.

Have you tried a solar panel Abar121? I use one for my Z, seems to keep the battery topped up pretty nicely, even here in the Highlands where we don't exactly get a lot of sunshine!

That would be cool. Unfortunately my parking pace is covered and in the dark.

Mine just died. It’s AGM 70 Ah and I believe it came with the car.

Same as the one sitting on the floor of my garage when I replaced mine, understand it’s manufactured in the USA by duralast

Not sure if still true today, but in the E85/E86 era. a black BMW OEM battery meant AGM, while non-AGM batteries were white. For the USA market, all Z4M's receive AGM batteries. Not sure about ROW stuff.

If that black battery pictured above is the original, it should look like this - with reference to "BMW Manufacturing" in Greer SC - aka the Spartanburg plant where our cars were all built. I believe the one pictured above may be a later replacement battery, but not sure. Here's what my original looked like..

Duralast doesn't manufacture anything - it's a brand for a auto parts chain store called Autozone. Various battery manufacturers, such as Jonhson Controls, make batteries for "Duralast". BMW also have various battery manufactures. It used to be Douglas Battery in North Carolina but have switched to Exide recently.

I’ve been following this post and I’m intrigued.
I’ve recently joined the Mc owners and mine just has a Halfords 640cca 70ah 12v.
I keep it on an opti-mate in the garage.
I recently took her for a service and queried why the drivers electric mirror wasn’t working.
Once the faults were cleared it worked perfectly.
After driving home it had stopped working again.
I plugged my own fault reader in and found 4 faults which I cleared.
Again mirror electrics working fine!
Is this down to the battery???? :?

Quite possible you’re right, Kevin. The only thing that’s clear from RealOEM is that batteries have been sourced from multiple suppliers under a number of different SKUs.
