OE whippy aerial

Hahah you guys are funny as
I've still got mine in garage
We should do a meet and only use them haha

B*gger - too late! :(

If anyone actually does want to sell a genuine whippy I would love to get one - the stubby my Blue one came with doesn't really work where I live (POS springs to mind)!

Whereas the whippy on my Ruby Black one actually picked up a signal on FM (which my TV cannot do in the Sandhurst reception "Black Hole")!

You can have mine, but remember that there has to be a hand over ceremony

The whippy is part of the Zed's charm and like a dogs tail has a purpose, so like tail docking it's removal should be banned

Happy proud dog with original tail

Heavily modified dog with tail removed

I think we need our own section on here for real men/women with real whippy's. Bit like the M and Alpina lot

But the stubby/whippy is only used for receiving am, the fm receiver is located near the rear bumper bar iirc.

That is the backup receiver in the bumper, the main aerial still does FM.

The two aerials switch automatically depending on which has the better signal on FM or will run both at once so it depends on the strength of signal as to whether the boot aerial is needed at all. Thinking this through means you may as well remove the boot aerial altogether as fit a stubby, if the system switches to the boot aerial looking for better FM signal than can be provide by the biggie in the bumper the stubby probably isn't going to do the job.

Every day's a schoolday :)
Thanks for that.
I forgot to take the whippy off the previous owner of my car sadly, in order to compare.
To be honest I find the reception pretty crap, but then I am in a difficult area. Perhaps I need to go whippy again?
Can anyone confirm any difference in reception between the official (expensive) BMW one and the Peugeot (?) one I imagine mine is since there is no visible part number?

Haha loving this thread and the pics of the dogs haha
I took mine off for detailer and loved the sleeker symmetrical look so it's fitted underneath now and a bung :)
See pic

That's what your car feels like Stuart :P

I could take offence to that Fred but I'll take it in the way it was meant

Just keep one eye on your car next time our paths cross
