Odd Startig Behaviour

Car had been of the road for a couple of months whilst mods were being carried out(2006 3.0si sport), and now when starting from hot or cold it takes a few more rotations to burst into life, and when it does, it whips up to 2000rpm for a few seconds before settling down. The other oddity is that if you expect it to start straight away and just flick the ignion long enough to turn over, it gives what I can only describe as a "chuff" from the intake. Any thoughts anyone?

Check for holes in intake hoses.
The 'chuff' you describe sounds like ccv diaphragm rupture. Had it twice, m52tu and m54 engines. Think ur oil separator is slightly different but still uses a diaphragm...

Situation now resolved, turned out to be the connection for the intake Vanos solenoid. I'd changed this recently and it had become loose.
