odd squeek, seems to be tied to throttle position RESOLVED

my 2.5i 2003 z4 has developed a high pitched squeek. after lots of playing about ive narrowed it down. basically the squeek only happens at a certain throttle position, usually just beyond where i hold my foot when cruising. you can hold the throttle in this position for a continuous squeek or if you go beyond it you get a very short squeek. i get no squeek when trying it stationary. also the squeek happens in every gear.

i cant tell where its coming from, i think under the bonnet. it sounds quite central in the car. only thing i can think of is disa? dont know much about it other than the threds ive seen on here. should i be worrying about this / visiting the bmw indy in telford to get it sorted?

going to have a look at it tomorrow, using this helpful thred http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=12150, thought id put a link on my post if anyone else ever has this issue. will post my findings at the weekend

Sounds like a mouse has taken up home just behind the firewall ..... obviously small throttle openings dont bother it too much, but fuller openings are probably catching it's tail resulting in said squeaking.
I suggest less spirited foot movements would give it more time to get it's rear end out of the way ..... less protest from said mouse, or perhaps some tasty french cheese might persuade it to move closer to the clutch pedal.
Getting the squeak to go completely may not be possible in the short term, I believe life expectancy to be around 2 years.
Best of luck anyway ........

sorry couldn't resist, Ive been offshore for 14 days, it's friday and Im off the rig in a few hours

lol!

after a bit of hunting i think ive sorted it, disa was not at fault but gave it a quick clean, it only had a film of muck. the culprit seems to be the rubber hose that connects to the inlet manifold, it is a y pipe and the small offshoot had cracks in is, and may have slipped off the connection bit / perished. didnt have time to dismantle as it means taking the airbox and attached piping out, but some duck tape over the cracked area and around the jubilee clip holding it in place all but got rid of the squeek, so im off to real oem for a part number to replace the pipe. it situated right under the disa so at least my ears were right.

I had the very same perishing on my zed. Apparently a very common issue.
£20 part and 0.5 hrs labour. Unless you want to do it yourself. But I was told it's a fiddly job.
Was well chuffed when I figured out what the noise was.

simple diy job, a little fiddly yes due to where jubilee clip is but patience will get you through, ill save that job till the bank holiday i think, but at £20 thats a relief, i was expecting more like £60!
