Odd door unlocking issue

I have had a rummage round on the forum but can't quite find anything that matches the problem on wifey's 2.5i.
Press the key to unlock the car, nothing happens.
Press the lock button and it makes a noise as though it's relocking, and there's the audible beep.
Boot button works fine.

If I put the key in the lock and turn it to unlock, it only unlocks the drivers door, as I think it should. Then turn the key back to lock the car again.
If I then press the unlock button it all works properly.
But then lock the car with the key fob and sometimes it repeats the same issue, but not always.

When the issue occurs, if I open the drivers door with the key and get in, the central locking button won't work either. This also comes back to life after the relock-unlock as above.

So, is this likely to be the key battery? (Don't have a spare to try on this car). Seems odd that it always locks ok, but won't unlock.
Or is it something in the drivers door lock that isn't quite making a connection?

Search gm5 problems may help with your issue.
Yes I looked at those.
Was thrown by the fact it works after the manual bit.
Is it still likely to be that you reckon?

They seem to throw random locking and unlocking problem,
Mine had to be sent of for repair and solved the issues.
I cant remember the exact issues with mine as the previous owner was a a friend and he told me of the issues and he sent the gm5 for repair,i then aquired the car with the repaired gm5 he didnt get round to fitting it,i fitted it after aquiring the car.
From what i remember its not expensive, you remove the module and send it of and then refit when fixed module returns dont think the turnaround time is more than a few days.
With what your saying are the issues it would be my best guess as to your problem.
Ps its quite a simple diy job if you do a bit of you tube first.

Cheers, bloody hate issues with electronics! As you say, it's a simple remove refit by the looks of it, and until that's done I could just be chasing the wrong thing. Next job on the list................

Yeah electrical issues can be chased forever, as far as i can remember think the gm5 fix was around £50 and free to fit.so seems to be a good starting point, also should rule out future issues if it doesnt turn out to be the fix.
I am no expert on these issues just passing on my personal experience with the gm5 fault, thats my disclamer :D

Oh I wouldn't hold you to it.
Just looked at a couple of Ebay sellers offering to turn it round in a couple of days for £35-£40. Add on the recorded delivery and yup, around 50ish. Weather's looking good the next few days so it'll be coming out soon methinks.
Thanks for the advice.

Cheers for confirming that Stuart, definitely need to get it sorted asap.

If the refurbished GM5 doesn’t solve it, it could be a faulty door actuator. I had an intermittent lock/unlock issue and it was the actuator.

I had similar issues, but only with the passenger door. Driver's door worked fine all the time. Tried a replacement door actuator first but same issue, had the GM5 repaired by https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273995673541 in late December and everything works perfectly on refitting it. He confirmed I had a bad relay in there causing it.

I can repair the GM5 module for you no problem for £40+p&p. Done a few for the forum guys already - can usually turn them around within 24-48hrs. PM me if you need more details.

That's a great offer, thank you very much.
Slight issue in that we are having our roof repaired at the moment and until the skip and scaffolding has gone the cars are stored elsewhere.
As soon as normal service is resumed I will get back to you to sort out the details.
