Occasional drop off of revs when idling

Hi all occasionally when coming to a stop or idling the revs will drop write off and the engine stops, this happens very rarely maybe once or twice in a week, there doesn't seem to be any power loss when driving or any rattles from the engine any ideas what this could be ?

Could be a bit of dampness or perhaps petrol. As an easy check I would suggest you fill up next time with premium top grade petrol and perhaps add some Redex. You could then check air filter etc before moving on to other possibilities.

At first start up occasional fluctuation of idle. Duration less than 5 seconds, around 500rpms.

at what RPM should the car idle at startup and then when its warmed up?

I read somewhere that the Vanos can make the car stall, will see if I can find it.
