Obligatory pictures

Hi and welcome, where are you now? There are a few of us around here.

Fancy attending a meet?

Moved along the coast to Worthing, :soapbox: Brighton is now run by car-hating, lycra-clad, green loonies (with apologies to any car-hating, lycra-clad, green loonies that might be reading this  )

Meets are possible, but everything has to fit around work obligations...

Great car! But other than the pics, what are the specs of the Alpina? (engine, bhp, mileage, age...) :)

Here you go :) http://www.bmwheaven.com/database/show.php?id=614

Thanks! Now I can see which parts I can be jealous about :D

The specs only tell part of the story - it's the way it delivers the power that's so impressive.

Oh... and the exhaust note... you have to hear the soundtrack... mmmm! :D

Stuart posted a link to the spec, but as for the Roadster S model itself

They were only produced in 2004/5 with a total of 373 cars, 167 of which were RHD, UK-spec. So they're fairly rare. They have a 3.4l Alpina fettled version of the US-spec E36 M3 engine, tuned for flexibility rather than outright power (you don't need to rev the b*ll*x off it to put a smile on your face). Alpina quoted a *minimum* power output of 300bhp, and that's supposed to be 'at altitude on variable quality fuel'

Mine is #320 (build position in the total production run) and was first registered in Sept 2005 and is just coming up to 36k miles.

They're not quite as 'hard core' as an M, they're a bit more refined and 'special' - and, as an added bonus, they're taxed as PLG so road tax is £220/yr and there's no 'M Tax' at the dealers :D

HTH

You forgot the added bonus Perry, that owing an Alpina makes you more attractive to the opposite sex; a red Alpina far more so :D

Nice description

Add to that the Mahle lightweight pistons for revability, 362Nm of torque at 4800rpm, redline at 7200rpm, stong low-end torque (270Nm at 1krpm), 270kph top-speed (where allowable) and a Boysen S/S tuned exhaust system and we're getting there. Also, remarkably frugal (ours is 32-34mpg depending on road conditions, and we aren't Captain Slows, and on a 35 mile trip yesterday on busy but quite freeflowing A roads, we got 36mpg! )

God we love this car.... :trampoline:

No, yours are the wrong way round, boys. Sorry........Black car, Red seats, not Red car Black seats :P Pulls the boys (for her) and the girls (for him). Guaranteed effect...and sparkly in the sunlight, too 8)

Sorry Ade,

That may work in Wales where a black car hides all the dust from the mines but, having spent the intervening period since your post conducting a poll of female friends and relatives, the red exterior/black interior beats black exterior/red interior as a manny fagnet at a ratio of about 7:3

I don't really care what boys find more attractive... :)
