Just wondering (probably know the answer already but...) is it worth investing in an OBD reader for my E89? Ive recently had a couple of warning pop up, like (in a previous thread) bulb warning and sometimes a tyre inactive indication. If so what would be any reccomendtion for a decent one would be appricated.

Recommend posting this in the E89 specific forum. Unsure if many E89 owners frequent this section. Maybe a mod can move this.

You definitely need a BMW specific code reader for the e89. Eventually the convertible top will take a crap and you will be very happy you have one.
 
OK so finally built up the courage to do my first bit of coding on my M40i - switched on the B&W sound option.
I have to say I wasn't expecting much but it's way better!

I only have the base hi-fi system and it sounds muddy and weak - this has really made a difference - bass is tighter and now has some thud, trebles much clearer. Why oh why did BMW code it the original way when it's capable of being so much better.

It actually feels worth listening to music sometimes now rather than just the B58 :)
 
I have a BT OBD reader and use Bimmercode app. So far, changed the following - all very easy:

- Have it start up in Sport Individual -thus getting rid of the annoying Auto Start/Stop
- Turned off ASD - I like the natural exhaust sound better anyways
- Changed to B&W sound option - agree with hairyfrogowl - sound is much improved
- turned off seatbelt warning chimes - I know if I am not buckled in and don't care to get harassed when I move a car 5'. :)
- Changed the turn signal chimes from the BMW harsh tones to the.....more refined RR tones - lol.
- Changed display refresh rate from 2X per second to 10X per second - not really sure I notice a big difference, but did it anyways.

Looking at other things to make the G29, they way I like it. I am staying away from the Expert mode as I want to maintain my warranty status and not really change anything that will get me in trouble. Great app.

You have 2 options, you can by a wifi or Bluetooth dongle, which I did when I had my e89.
Today I received the Autel ENET cable. I use a USB C docking with ethernet port, so I can connect the ENET cable on my Android phone (then just activate Ethernet tethering).
A drawback of the Bluetooth dongle is its speed, it takes long to read memory faults.
I used it with https://bimmerlink.app (I think reading errors is/was free) but when you want to reset errors, battery renewel, ... you need a subscription.
Bimmerlink also allows you to set the exhaust flap to open, which gives a nice sporty sound. But you need to redo it everytime you start the car.

The developper also has another well known tool, Bimmercode wich let you recode some options like KBCobra already explained.
On my e89 I was able thanks to BimmerCode to open the roof with the remote without having the Comfort Access (I was not able to close the roof).
I was also able without that pack to fold my mirros when long pressing the close butten on the remote.
And I had the One-touch turn signal duration set to 5 times.
