Hi all,

Just joined after spending the past few weeks reading quite a few posts from this forum. Lots of great knowledge available here.
I've just bought one of only a handful of NZ new delivered 3.0SI coupes. There's only 22 showing in our national database, for those who don't know NZ is a country that gets a lot of imports from various countries - for euro models it would be Japan and the UK.

I'm really happy with my purchase, it's an 06 build delivered in April 2007 car which is optioned as an M sport. Montego blue with black leather/brushed alloy interior. Matches our '06 E91 330D touring in matching colour/interior really nicely 8) I've also had a 130i M sport in Montego blue with light grey leather and 6spd manual. I've also owned a handful of other BMW's and many many other cars, mainly Toyota's.

After deciding to get a coupe, I narrowly missed out on buying another NZ new coupe (same car twice in 12 months). First time I didn't have the cash at hand and someone else swooped on it while I was trying to scrape the asking price together. Then that chap listed it as an auction about 2 weeks ago, I bid on it but someone wanted it much more than I could, with the car selling for nearly $5000 more than he'd paid for it. I was gutted as I knew my chances of finding another were slim...

Funnily enough my car popped up less than a week later at the other end of the North Island. My brother had spotted it listed for sale and after calling the owner I bought it on the spot. The owner was a really great guy and gave me all the history of the car he knew, he's owned it the past 4 years. I picked it up last week whilst up in Auckland for work, drove it back yesterday. 600km of getting to know the car was enjoyable!

My plan is to use it as a weekender, we've somehow turned into a 3 car, 1 motorbike family between my girlfriend, the dog and myself. I've found a couple of things I'll need to sort out on the car but it's largely very tidy with only 78,000km on the clock.

Welcome, congrats on the purchase. I called about his car and would have bought it but you just beat me to it. You may have been looking at the black one that has sold twice in the last year.I looked at it but had one service in about 7 or 8 years and black wasn’t my favourite colour. The car you bought is much better imho. Great forum this with lots of info. I believe you are in Wellington so be good to catch up. I have a manual roadster. Cheers

Hi Haggisman, yes you are spot on with all points there.
The black one wasn't advertised with much info either time but that car lived on the same road as me with the owner who was advertising it first time round. It belonged to the owner of RS Lane panel beaters, it had been very well looked after and was immaculate inside and out. I was the first to view it and was allowed a drive of it. I liked the non M steering wheel and it reminded me of the early MR2's I have owned just a couple of...

He had a very nice little collection of cars which were all just as perfect. The Z4 was actually his wife's car and she had to move on from it as it was no longer practical to have it. Disappointing that none of the care was documented but he was also selling it for a complete bargain at 17.5k with only 55km on the clock.

I think this blue example is the better car too, but if you were comparing both cars to brand new condition the black one was near mint. The two cars are very different to drive. M sport suspension, 17" vs. 18" wheels/tyres and the standard vs msport seats give a very different experience.

Stepping up is always fun :D out of interest what would that be for you?
EDIT - Just saw you're contemplating that red roadster! definitely a lot of car for the money but unsure about buying a jap import unless you got a lot of history on the car. Half the asking price of the m coupe :-o

I really love how the E86 looks, I'm no purist at this point and wouldn't mind finding something other than the N52 under my bonnet (pipedream) I should just be happy to find a car.

Yes, they are amazing cars for sure. N52 is a sublime engine.

Looking at a Z4M roadster. Test drove it this AM - simply amazing; sound and power. Just posted in the M forum

Car yard also has an E60 M5, but the latter may be a little too crazy ...

I don't think I'd own another car with that early Idrive :headbang:

One of the big appeals of the Z4 for me is the lack of technology that quickly becomes outdated, I find "old modern tech" to be a barrier for many enthusiasts, it can ruin the experience of owning what should be a good car. I steered clear of jap import 3.0's for this reason; toll card readers and Idrive drove me bonkers in the 130i.

Hi and welcome to the forum from a fellow Coupe and serial BMW owner.

Montego Blue is a great colour, but be warned these cars can be addictive.

Welcome to the forum. Looks like you found a great example of the bread over there in Wellington. Fantastic place to live. 8) Our son just bought a house in Miramar.

[ref]buzyg[/ref], working for Weta by chance? My Dad used to work out there when I was kid. Used to be an industrial/dreary sort of a place but the film studio/production and associated workforce have bought the area up immensely.

He actually works for Department of Education right next to the parliament building. New place is a couple of hundred yards from the studio. It's small but perfectly formed.
