Hi guys, the girlfriend and I are planning on a small road trip to the nurburgring later in the year, thinking august time. we've never done any kind of road trip in europe so any advice would be great. we would ideally like to stay in decent hotels at lowish prices

We are going from N'Castle to Amsterdam, planning on stopping at the CitizenM Hotel as it is looking the most affordable for 4 nights, then heading down to the Ring, thinking a couple nights at the Ring, then we are planning to go to Bruges for a couple of nights, then back to the Ferry, all going well.

parking seems to be the main issue with Amsterdam, so if anyone has any recommendation for there that would be great, ideally again, lowish prices (we've seen some for €400 for one week parking)
At the moment we're still looking at hotels in Bruges so any recommendation would be great (esp about parking)
Also anyone ever stayed at any of the Ring hotels??

one last thing, any recommendations for track insurance? and or health insurance? in case it all goes wrong :(

Hotels : I've stayed here, http://www.hotel-haus-sonneck.com/. Clean, cheap, nice people, free parking. There are plenty of guesthouses and hotels in the area though. Novotel on site is expensive IIRC. Don't forget to check when the Touristfahren days are if you haven't already

Insurance : Moris do cover but its very, very expensive. Most people don't bother

Brugge : lovely city but parking tricky as it's Medieval. Having said that I have always managed street parking when I'm there, and it was free overnight. Very pretty and very safe I think, I didn't have an issue

Pistenklaus : make sure you book a table here the week before you go, worth it for their steak on a stone. Tiny restaurant but the most popular place in Nurburg. Which isn't hard as there is very little there

Yep, stayed in almost all of the hotels local to the Ring. The Sonneck as already said, nice  Trouble is, it's a bit isolated and a little outta the way. IMO, the Blau Ecke in Adenau is a better option, as it's ideally located in the town, also with parking (albeit not much), there is however lots of safe parking very close by. Plenty of restaurants and a decent pub are also nearby.

Also in Adenau is the Sonnehof, which imo is the nicest local hotel, really nice rooms and in a really nice location. Loads of parking, but on the upper edge of town, so a short walk in/out of town.

Google Blau Ecke Adenau or Landhaus Sonnenhof Adenau for more info.

Pistenklaus........great atmosphere and the steak on a stone is indeed worth the visit......sadly the rest of the grub in there is average at best :(

Get the ferry booked asap!

I booked mine Nov / Dec last year and It was a good £50 or more cheaper than the price I paid in July for the 2010 trip!

Thanks guys some great advice, as alway! I'm starting to get right up for my first Nürburgring trip!! Target of 15mins lol :P

Your love it, did the same trip last august stopping at Bruges, the ring, frankfurt, salzburg and vienna but bottled out doing a circuit.. I'm back from a works trip in august if you fancy two gate crashers :D
