Once I've engaged my common sense button I have to agree. Take it easy and don't try to be a hero until you've learned the track a bit and found the limits of your car and ability. Make sure you keep an eye in the mirrors too.

Would it help that i am a member of IAM? lol

Hey me too :)

Probably not - I crashed on my first track day the other week :(

I'm going to try to avoid that i think...i hope......not good news about the IAM though....aren't we supposed to be goodish driver?

On the roads yes - tracks are different. You done any track work before?

How long you been an IAM member?

Fortunately the crash wasn't in my car and wasn't serious :D

I've been a member for about 12 years and am now an observer with my local group :)

we must have very similar cars too......2003 sterling grey, soft top, 3.0 se, red leather, 17inch wheels, only 12000 on the clock.

Em........Ok i'll try that lol

jesus thats quick......Do you recon he needed a new engine after though?

Nah, the engines are bomb proof if you build them properly. If you check out the ESS website they say they have used the car to do 40k track miles with no engine rebuilds.

Ouch.....thats low  ...........................the previous owner....an oldish guy only did 600 miles in 6 months.....Thats my excuse anyway and am sticking to it!
I looked at the 18inch wheels but read on various sites that it makes the ride really bumpy and also they cost around 1100 quid for a set. How are you finding them? I might upgrade.

Hey - no offense meant :D

No experience of the 17" wheels as my car came with 18" 108 style wheels, I've changed them to style 203, and yeah they were 1200 quid. With the different tyre brand (Micheline ZP) the ride is bumpy but not harsh like the bridgestones were - even my wife noticed the difference straight away, and she isn't normally bothered :D

Anyone got any other track times from UK tracks? Looking for more realistic times set by normal people rather than driving maniacs in supercars?

For the Nurby times listed.....

Very good driver add 1:00 min.
Good driver add 1:15.
Not bad add 1:50.

So on......

Actually I for really fancy a trip to the Nurby one day. Has the forum ever considered a group run? Next year sometime perhaps?

That would be great actually. I wonder if there will be much interest? I for one will definately be up for it!!!

I agree, best to forget lap times and build your speed steadily otherwise what should be am enjoyable time will end in tears. It must be difficult to not try and keep up with the locals/regulars but it's just not worth it. I've never done a track day but have sat as a passenger at Spa recently, on the last lap my mate span his Z4MC, luckily no damage but it could have ended very differently.

Unless you've done 100 laps of the Ring you will not be fast compared to some on the track. I've been 5 times and reckon it needs another 20 visits before i'd be able to remember sections and begin to get them even close to right. The problem is that you enter a 6 or 7 bend section at the wrong speed on the wrong line and it's wrong for the entire section. And it happens all the way through. You do build up confidence on the day and you're last lap should be a more satisfying attempt but forget getting near any lap times and just relax and enjoy the occasion. It might not be there forever.

Be safe and realistic and then head straight from the track to Koln (Cologne) for a night out, it's a great city. Try the Intercontinental Hotel, it's great and the clubs are great also.

Thanks outrun I think we are actualy staying in that hotel. Mate of mine has been there before and mentioned the nightlife!!! We are going to tear it up :)
