Looks like the nurburgring went belly up today. Not sure what this may mean for the tourist fahrten days, Or rock am ring fest.

Let's hope that some organisation steps in to save the circuit... it would be criminal if it disappeared. Arguably the most famous racetrack in the world... :(

Hmm gotta use my left over laps then, but then again, I don't think they will shut down the touris as well. It's a major cashcow for the local economy. They just shouldn't have build all the erlebniswelt mumbo jumbo.

:( Been coming for a while. Can't see the track suddenly disappearing. From what I have read over the past few years, they just built too many flash Hotels, when there was already enough local accomodation that suited the average track day visitor better. Some one will buy the assets and the share holders, bankers and local taxpayers, will lose a lot of shirts.

I have to admit. When I went there last summer. I was thinking that it did look a little on the posh side. Roller coaster inside and going right by the stands. I generally go to a track to (or see someone else) go fast.

Funny how spending more than you make leads to being broke. Don't they teach this in business school.

Obviously not... hoping they find a buyer for our Olympic stadium soon too...

I haven't been for 2 years now, I didn't like the corporate feel of the place up and around The Dorint hotel area, let's hope if it is bought it can resemble how it used to be :(

Been there twice a year since Nurodisney was built, and haven't even been tempted to pop-in to the big white heffelump - even though the multi-lap tickets gave free entry and discounts for the shops.

Another one for Bernie (The Evil Midget) Ecclestone to snap up. He can then cancel another GP to make more use of his own tracks.

I spoke to some locals about Nurodisney last time I was there... It's pretty interesting.

The rollercoaster has run once, and will never run again. Something's wrong with it, the company that built it fell out with the Nurburgring owners and washed their hands of it. Apparently there are only a few companies that build them, and the others have said they wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

When it ran (I believe that Michael Schumacher went on it), the whole Hotel shook!

The roller coaster doesn't have a safety licence.

The owners want the coaster fixed so that it can get a licence and both the owner/builder are refusing to pay for the remedial work, so it's in limbo.

The numbers used to justify the investment were 'made up' probably based on estimations that every driver had a car with 3 passengers (wife & 2 kids), and they assumed those 'ghost' passengers would want to do something different while 'hubby/father' was driving on the 'Ring. Unfortunately for the investors, the stats show that most drivers go 1-up in their own car.
