Anyone been to the ring who would care to comment on the corner? Is it tricky?

All the corners at Nordschleife are tricky if you don't know the layout and the best line to take. The track is exceptionally undulating and with accentuated cambers, so if you don't use the cambers in your favour, you can end up where you don't want to be because the lateral G-force on your car could change rapidly if you were to find yourself on a section with an unexpected adverse camber.

The camera for that video is mostly located at Brunnchen and with regard to the cars going into the gravel or spinning adjacent to there is because they turn in too early. The video doesn't really give an indication that when you drive that particular right-hand corner, the track goes steeply uphill as you turn and if you turn too early, you can't see the apex so you'd make your apex too soon and then you'd tend to drift towards the gravel with too much speed. The best entry to the corner is about 4 or so metres after the red/white kerb stones on your left as you approach the corner so you then have a later apex and don't lift off!

It's real name is Brunchen, but it's nickname is Krunchen for good reason - and it's where there's a big car park for spectators, so they will congregate there anyway.

It's not a particularly challenging corner, but it does goad you into taking it faster than you should, plus a little dampness or oil can make all the difference :P

As Exdos has said, it also punishes you for turning in too early, but when I was learning (still learning of course) the track I was going slow enough through that corner that it didn't matter what line I took

Puts me right off!!!

yeah, i would love to go but i think that i would just drive around a bit too cautiously and get in peoples way (esp as its a free for all) as i wouldnt want to crunch the car.

there seemed to be alot of "race" looking cars there.. is it used for competition or are they just likely to be testing.

Thats why its much better IMO to avoid touristenfahrten - public days and go on a private booked track day. Far less loons!

Here's a video of me driving through the section shown in the earlier video that I recorded a few year ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hicG_W1Rc5I I'm driving on ordinary road tyres (Falken 452s).

The crashes seen in the distance occur at around 9-10 seconds in my video and those that end in the gravel occur at around 18 seconds. At the start of my clip, you are descending a steep incline all the way into Brunnchen and then exit by a steep incline.

Yep as the others say its Brunchen . I found the steep inclines through a adverse camber corner on the track quite tricky to start with. It felt as if it was loading up my suspension just enough to spit me out into the armco. But after a few laps you find the correct entry exit points and life is much happier.

It reminds me of that corner at silverstone, don't know its name but in 2012 when we went hell for leather on the parade lap and hit a corner that took me by surprise. Went in far to quickly, wrong apex, car wobbling all over. Important lesson learned that day. Get used to a track before pushing the car.

On a parade lap? Normally they don't allow you to go faster than just above walking pace ... (usually blocked by some car leading very slowly ...).

Er yes well, it was supposed to be a parade lap, which half way around it turned into, if not slower. But hey it was an open track in front of me and the pedal went straight down on it own, honest officer...
