Number plates

Just bought a new reg for our Z4 - initials rather than car specific. Has anyone had decent platets made up- I was thinking maybe 'Euro' style with BMW logo. Has anyone had any plates made up that don't look as if they were knocked up in a hurry by someone on EBay.

non car specific are best in my opinion, you done the right thing :thumbsup:

what other letters/mumbers have you picked and why?
 
Got first two initials of me and wife's name (MF) 02 (just the two of us/two seats) and first three initials of surname. MF02 MCL
 
Indeed! Can't be arsed making A look like a 4 and squashing something together to make a phrase. I like the new one, means something to me and in theory doesn't age the car.
 
A mate at a dealership got mine done for free. Good job but shame they have to stick the dealer name on them under the reg number.... (it wasn't a BMW dealership :headbang:)

I would try to get some made up that have no location etc under the reg... :thumbsup:

I hate to say it but go to the stealers in my opinion. Got ours done at Williams, I think they were something like £28 but well worth it, excellent quality with the subtle 'Williams' at the bottom. No point buying a private number then getting rubbish plates made up, buy cheap buy twice I always say! :D

Adamski that was the plan. They car came with main dealer plates but the non-franchised dealer ripped them off and replaced with a MASSIVE logo :x that's not the worse thing though- you should have seen the tax disc holder :rofl:
 
i would not want a dealers name on mine, i would prefer my name to a dealers name

mine are probably illegal because of the side badge, its tackie but i like it

But my local dealer is Park Lane but car came from Stephen James- if I was to sell wouldn't it look funny? And by funny I mean dodgy!
 
We bought ours from Knights of Stafford and got them done at Williams Manchester. Wouldn't think it'd make any odds especially if you are going take your cherished plate off again when it's being sold nobody would be any the wiser.
 
I suppose. Just not sure what I would think if I was viewing a car like that- probably worried over nothing. If you just call stealer will they make them up or do I need to produce V750/V5?

go to your local small sign maker most will be able to come up with what ever design you want :wink:

If I remember rightly you have to take proof of ID, MOT certificate and the V5. Before buying the Z we had our plate on another car prior to selling it, so before going to the DVLA to put the plate on retention (as we hadn't yet bought the Z4 but knew we were having one) we went to BMW with the MOT and V5 for the old car to make sure when we got the car we didn't have to wait before getting some plates as there would be no MOT or V5 as it would have been at the DVLA office. I must admit, seeing the puzzled look on the guys face as we were in a BMW dealership getting plates made up for what should have been an Audi A6 was quite amusing. :)

Even went to the extent of removing the 'Knights' window sticker and replacing it with a 'Williams' one, just shows how much we thought of them.
 
Sadly, in these bureaucratic days (and yes I'm sure there are very good reasons for it), legally you have to have the makers name on the bottom of the plate and only country or EU logos are permitted.

The fact that you can order what the feck you like as 'showplates' inside or outside the UK, seems to escape the bureaucrats attention, but there you go.

So, just in case your garage has a little hissy fit at MoT time (where they could theoretically fail it), its best to get a kosher set and a showplate set and stick the former on with sticky tape for MoT.

Someone I used to know from the VX220 forum ran this company. They will make up show plates which can have logos and things on. I’ve never had a problem getting through an MOT without the correct postcode and other codes written on the bottom, but they might be getting more strict on this. Plates on my Z4M are completely legal.

Seems I was worrying a bit too much in my earlier post - http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_630.htm also contains the entire current MoT manual - seems the issue of a plate not having the makers name on it isn't yet an MoT failure, nor indeed is the question of a non-standard side logo. In my case (or my wifes to be precise LOL) the second set of plates was to cope with a character spacing issuette 8)
