Number plate transfer guidance please

Morning team,

So we bought an X3 for Mrs Boris on Tuesday to replace her existing Qashqai (if anyones interested it’s an Auto 2013 30D MSport).

We decided to get our first private plate for it, which I purchased from the DVLA site, also on Tuesday. I can see the number in my DVLA account now.

Not done this before, so what is the process from here to get that number on the car? Do I have to wait for a physical version of the V750, do I need the new log book for the X3 prior to transfer? Are there any other documents required in connection with assigning the new plate?

I am aware the transfer can be done relatively easily and quickly on the DVLA online platform, but the guidance on their website isn’t particularly clear on exactly what is needed to facilitate that. Hence delving into the knowledge base here for guidance.

Any help gratefully received.

Afternoon, the V750 will have the reference number for transferring the plate, don’t know if you can view that online or need o wait for the physical certificate. You need the new V5 as again, there’s unique references on the new one you need. Once you have both the above, or the numbers required it’s a 5 minute job online. Only thing of note is the service is only available 7am - 7 pm and iirc mon-fri.

There are very odd occasions where this online service isn’t available on a specific car and a paper application needs done. Something to do with either tax/SORN but in transferring/buying/shopping possibly 30+ plates it’s only happened twice. Both times with the same vehicle

If you need any assistance give me a call or drop me a text/pm

Great, thanks Andy, looks like the V5 is the key then. I imagine the V750 will arrive fairly quickly by comparison.

Hopefully it will be plain sailing from there, but I shall shout if I get stuck :D
