NS Wing Mirror: Glass fell out!

My Z's made it through the winter so far, but the glass has fallen out of the wing mirror!

Looks like the mirror is glued to the plastic backing with some kind of double sided adhesive - is this something I can just re-glue on? if so, any recommendations for an adhesive that will do the job?

I suspect the next time it falls out I won't be so lucky (and it won't land somewhere quite so soft...)

:)

*EDIT* Just spotted this thread which suggests they're fine to stick back on: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18575&p=314087&hilit=Mirror+glass#p314087

Just had the same thing happen over the holiday, I used some thin double backed tape used for number plates from Halfords, has done the trick so far and its thin enough that the heated element is still effective. (cheap fix too).

That sounds like it'll do the job, wondered if the heating element would dry it out quickly though?

This is one of the few things I'd go oem for the BMW fixing pad/adhesive. When you take a look at the price of glass (which will make your eyes water) and then knowing the heater is on full time then you want something that will last for years under tough conditions.

I wouldn't skimp. Although, BMW lasted a little over 3 years... so far my replacement, as Rugby04 I used 3 party - 3M I think, has lasted around 4 years.

Fair point if it's tested in the field and lasted that well

Both mine have done this in the past- one smashed and the replacement part was an adapted design- the other one I glued on and it's been fine for a year and heats as quick as ever

Hi,

Just to let you know that the following sticky pads will do fine:

*Cure your shaky mirror*!!

Just for reference - If your mirror is shaking/vibrating then that mean it wants to fall off one day!

What I did with mines is just rip it (The mirror Glass only) off the backing - Came off easily as obviously there's not much adhesive holding it on.

I then used Double sticky sided, waterproof and high temp resistant foam pads. They are about 3mm thick, black in colour and about 15mm squared. I used about 8 to 10 around the edges and center. Job done, no messing about with glue. It's stuck on solid now. I'll keep an eye on it but it doesn't look like it'll fall off any time soon.
Available from Halfrauds.

Glass is still stuck on strong.
Car has been through storms, snow and sleet. Recently the mirror has been covered in ice too!
