NS rear light staying on

Walked past the Z parked up on my drive earlier and noticed illumination from the NS rear light.

Not fully illuminated but definitely "on".

At first I thought it was the parking light but it wasn't.

I took it for a drive and everything works fine but after parking up and locking the light remains on.

I'm thinking that with all the rain recently something is being shorted out. Disappointing build quality if so.

Has anybody had anything similar or any suggestions?

Could I get anything done under the BMW insured warranty?

HELP!!!

3 Days with BMW Cardiff and they couldn't sort it. Couldn't find any water ingress or signs of anything failing.

They just shrugged and tried to blame it on the aftermarket HIDs fitted at the front.

Anyone any help? This is bad, at the moment I have to disconnect the cluster every time I park up.

All of the above and revert to OEM and see what happens - however if the light is on it indicates a degree of residual current leaking into the lamp from somewhere.

If it's dimly lit, I would expect that canbus current is lighting it - I've seen this with LED bulbs before. Are your rears LED?

Thats totally bizzare. The HIDs have been fitted for years and this never happened. I cant see how they would effect it when turned off?
Have you tried turning the light switch away from auto?
I am honestly just guessing tho buddy.

Ben ive been thinking about this and I really am coming up blank. Other than try moving the switch out of auto the only other thing I would try is disconnection of the battery for 30 minutes. I am struggling to think of a probable cause tho.

Thanks for the input guys.

Ranski, I don't think anything would be accomplished by switching bulbs. There is current going to the cluster when there shouldn't be, the bulbs all work.

AlanJ, I'm inclined to agree. I intend to disconnect the front and see if there's any issue. At first the symptoms seemed linked to heavy rain but the more I monitor it it seems a little more random and to do with a control unit issue rather than wiring. BMW also confirmed they couldn't find any evidence of water ingress.

Markeg, I don't know if they are led or not. I just presumed they were bulbs with a kind of "light bar". They are standard facelift E85 lifts.

Stug, I've tried everything with switches, battery etc etc.

Did you fit the HIDs? Are they easy to disconnect and did you have to alter the original loom to fit them?
