NS door unlocks but doesn’t open

Hello,

So….. The passenger door couldn’t be opened from the outside but still opened from the inside. Today I had a look to see if I could rectify the problem but have made the situation worse, the door no longer opens from the inside. Here is what I did:

1. Took the interior panel partially off to see if the issue was with the Bowden cable
2. Lubed the door mech that hits the striker plate
3. The door mech moved when I used the outside handle
4. Put the door panel back on
5. Tried to shut the door but the door mech wouldn’t activate when the door hit the striker plate. This meant the door remained open
6. Held the door shut and the used the remote to lock the car and the door was then closed

Since then I cannot open the door from the inside, have tried multiple locks/unlocks, windows up/down/partial open but still nothing. So now I have no clue how the heck I get the damned door open, any suggestion?

TIA Paul

****UPDATE****
With a lot of cursing and huffing and puffing, I have managed to get the door panel out in situ. I have removed the boden and trying to release the catch but it is stuck fast. I am now completely at a loss as to next steps and there doesn't seem to be any how to's or you tube videos out there. :(

Step 5 reminds me of my E46 doing this to me earlier this year. The door wouldn't latch so I gave it a damn good slam. Then it wouldn't open!

The problem was the inside handle Boden cable getting jammed in its sleeve. I think this was a frayed wire as it'd felt funny for ages. I got the door card off (not that tricky) and stared at it for ages before realising that the latch now opened from the outside. It was the action of having the inside latch release permanently pulled that was preventing the outer handle working.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for getting back to me. I have managed to remove the door panel in situ, amazing how much force you need to get the top section off the clips!

I have removed the boden cable completely and I am still not able to get the door up. Feels like the problem is in the latch area, however I am totally stuck on how to get at the latch mechanism now.

Pity. It didn't sound quite the same problem but want idea is worth throwing out. If it is the latch then that's a whole new kettle of problems. I've heard of people releasing on 4 door cars by getting the latch off the body from behind it. Dunno if there's a similar possiblity with 2 doors (maybe up from the rear arch?)

One thought: have you tried the key in the door lock?
