Now with added Carplay..

My AUX setting allowed me to turn the volume right up, it’s probably better than normal playback :| that said my 35i with a Miltek exhaust is a far superior sound track to anything the head unit will ever produce

It may be something to do with analog signal levels..BMW specialises in weird signal levels..3 ish volts on signal wiring..
Yeah, I'm all for good sound and I'm sure the AUX is by far the worst possible way, but when you're doing 70mph down the motorway with the roof down you ain't hearing the quality sounds anyway
Even with the roof up, tyre noise, engine noise etc, nobody will notice the difference between the CD quality and the AUX input.
Whereas is it truly is bad audio then a good point to start would be some electrical cleaner in the AUX socket as if it hasn't been used much (if at all) then it could be corroded! Now this would have a very bad effect on sound quality.

For sure...however I do find that once you’ve turned up the volume past 1kw it then starts to matter  :tumbleweed:

If you think the aux sounds the same as a CD, even at 70mph, you're a very lucky man !
 no just a realist.
I seriously think you have a problem with your AUX input though. Or you've got exceptional hearing, or you drive an 18i (in that case you need a real engine! )

Wouldn't the same apply to a 20i or 28i   :fuelfire:

But seriously, I am no audiophile but I do notice some difference in quality when playing a CD compared to audio from the AUX but the difference isn't huge and it no way stops me enjoying the quality that comes from the AUX. What I do find poor, is the quality from the FM radio.
