He still lives at home and has no plan to buy a house soon, but is willing to fork out the best part of a £30k deposit on a new car... Madness!

sort of thing that you'll regret in 5 years...I had the same cavalier from 17 to 29, set me up for life!

That is lovely! :o

Great work Mr Wilks, loving the roof photo, looks a bit dodgy balancing up there

Fantastic Gaff. And in France, double bonus
That fireplace looks superb to sit next to on a winter's night with a glass of red and a wodge of cassoulet to work your way through.

Thanks for all kind comments folks , really appreciated & i didn,t post to brag , not my style .
There are many times you have thoughts whether you are making the right decision,s when something consumes almost all spare funds & all spare time but this trip just felt like it was all worthwhile
Still some jobs to do but this last week saw the water & electric all in working order for the first time which is a milestone & enabled us to stay in the place for the first time .
My son did the plumbing (he,s 21 now & time served ) & has been with me to iron out any problems & we did have a couple of issues  resulting in enthusiastic swearing & cursing but all sorted & pretty trivial now although not at the time :P ( we won,t discuss the 3 hours digging in the pouring rain yesterday to make the connection into the fosse ! )
Really proud of him as a lot of the 1st fix work was done before he qualified & i hope the whole project inspires him in the future .

To some of the comments /
GregZ4 / maybe it will be let at some point next year but just now it,s not 100% ready
aquazi / at times i admit to bad thoughts of throwing in £35k on my dream C4S Gen2 but i know that is fool,s gold
Fin / LOL it,s not always a clean & tidy ship , getting rid of debris & builders rubbish in France is a 1 hour round trip to the "Dechetterie" (the tip) , no skips over there but at least you can dump for free
Z4M-2006 / i appreciate the difference in skills Re property & cars but at times the thought,s are vice versa for me

Cheers all & hoping at some point next year for a roadtrip with the TT mixing it up with a few Z,s ?

Oh to have a trade.

Car forums are full of young guys with expensive cars who still live with their folks. Amazingly none of them seem to see how stupid it is.

Lovely looking place very good job. Maybe it's your camera no offence but the lighting in the photos is not great especially in the kitchen. Are they just the under cupboards on?

Very nice, well worth it. I'm sure you'll get a lot of joy from your 'new' place, especially given all the hard work that's gone into it

Fantastic job. Looks really great and just the sort of style I'd have gone with.

I can certainly appreciate the effort having spent a chunk of this year on a plane back and forth to southern Spain to turn a repo new build into a home.

Working at a distance places challenges people can't imagine.

Very very impressive Mr.W. All the hard work paid off by the looks of it and am sure your son will soon be onto his next project and there'll be no stopping him

Out of interest, was the delay just down to the imfamous French planning system?

Cj10 / the logistics is a full time occupation , the ferry operators must shake their heads whenever i book :P
Carried about my Astravan this trip was
1 son, 1 set of plumbers tools, 1 set joinery tools, 1 single mattress (11inch pocket sprung) 1 28inch Lcd tv , 1 tv wall bracket , varoius pictures , 1 microwave, 2 sets of crockery,1 rug & some qtr ply to finish the kitchen floor
then on top i had a single bed frame , a single fridge + single freezer :P well worth the £37 ferry ticket

Luke T S / yeah its a s**t camera but all spare funds allocated elsewhere , maybe next year i,l get one ?

Inkey / Planning consent for the barn only actually took us 6months to achieve once we,d started the process (around 400 euros total) ,
before then i,ve been busy converting the house & cottage that are attached to the barn . They do get let for holidays so anyone with Z4forum membership can enjoy preferential rates  http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/france/fr2243.htm

well what can one say ,what a fantastic job you have done you can have a rest now till the next project comes along .I do things like this finish them then never have time to enjoy them before she finds me a new project. brakes are on now enjoying life a lot more  :driving:
