Now it's getting silly

Mine are silver... But I just checked and definitely threaded one of my 'specially machined' MacGuard extended locking bolts :(

I think the machining must have nicked the end of the thread and it's now flattened. Need to just replace with an ordinary bolt I think. Bummer.

Hi guys, new on here. Those zinc plated bolts may not stay shiny for very long, had similiar on my mgtf, lasted 2 weeks before they began to corrode.

Anyone used these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CHROME-WHEEL-NUT-COVERS-CAPS-17mm-For-BMW-/380438276659?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5893e36a33

Thought i might modify some to fit the locking nut.

I've not yet put them on, but based on 2alpsade's feedback giving them a couple of coats of poorboys sealer keeps them in good nick. TBH, if they only last a year, I'll just order more at that price :)

Yes, but zinc will begin to oxidise and go grainy once they are exposed to moisture. Chrome is a better protective layer and won't dull or oxidise. If you look up chrome plates wheel nuts/bolts they're always more expensive as they last longer.

That's not exactly true, as soon as you tighten the chrome plate, they will be damaged and start to corrode and peal. If you want wheel bolts to last then Stainless Steel is the way to go or Titanium if your rich and stupid

Wonder what the required minimum proof stress is for bolts, can't imagine that's it's that high given the strength of the alloy wheel vs the compressive force caused by the bolt heads.

I had these on a previous car, I can't find anything as good so far for our BMW fitment. I also had a special bolt removal socket with a plastic colar to stop the bolts being marked ...

:o

Do they come with a naked supermodel to fit them ?

Err, I painted my wheel nuts with thinned smooth silver hammerite this evening. Cost about £1 and looks spot on. :D .

Now can spend £399 on beer and cigars :D :D

I might be interested in doing this - any chance you could upload a pic?
